Our room was much the same as other reviewer's description with the added complaint of a dirty bathroom that I would never use the bath in! We stayed for one night only, thankfully, and got little sleep because we could hear every word our neighbours said (or snored). Yes the staff were nice and the parking great, but really just keep driving and stay up the coast where there are much more beautiful places to see and stay.

Greymouth doesnt have much to see by way of attractions, and staying at a poor quality hotel certainly doesnt help. Kingsgate hotel Greymouth was the worst hotel during our NZ stay. The rooms were small, damp and dark, the appliances could be called outdated at worst, and the building seemed to be untouched from the late 18th century! The hotel restaurant was also nothing to write home about. On the positive side, the staff were pleasant and parking is easily available next to the hotel. Though the hotel does not take any responsibility for your car! We were forced to extend our stay to 2 nights because of the change in our itinary because of the Christchurch earthquake. Would never stay in this place again.

The room was very much like one from the 60's with a wood panel headboard and a stale smell reminiscent of old houses. We were very disappointed after having stayed in a very nice one earlier in Paithia. It seems the standard vary in every place. They should have a different rating for the one in Greymouth as it fell short of the requirements of a hotel. This was more like a 3 star B&B in the UK.

I thought I had gotten into a time machine when walking into this room, the bathroom and decor have not been touched since the 1960's!! The room was so small, we had booked for a couple and our room had a double and a single bed in it making it very cosy. Our room also had a glass door, which if the curtains werent closed, people could see right into our room. Booking this hotel is quite deceiving as there is a motor lodge attached to the hotel, and yep we got put into the motor lodge! Greymouth is boring enough, so this hotel didnt make our stay here anymore enjoyable. One positive the staff were very nice.....probably because they got to hang out in the hotel section.
