The owner seems to have a few facts wrong - apparently there was dirty carpets and a bedspread, there was an extra person (child) as he put it, that wasn't paid for and we checked out 1/2 hour late. My review as follows -
I'm not sure but to us they seemed like new owners. When I got there they totally emphasised not to reverse up to the rooms and their no smoking policy. I was told several times before the key was handed over. They said they needed a credit card number too, which was understandable but then came the lecture....Because we were there on New Years Eve we were told they don't mind what time we come in but to be very quiet and no noise, basically they rent the room out for the night and it's to sleep in not to make noise. If were were noisy we would be charged for it on our cards.
Hubby reversed up to the room just to unpack as I hadn't told him not to reverse up, before the owner came out and said quite abruptly that he has just spent so much money on renovations and they don't want car fumes in the room - mind you we have a brand new car! The rooms had been totally renovated which were fantastic, they looked like 5 star hotels but were very pokey.
Check out was at 10am we were 15 mins late, but were flat out trying to get out to the car as soon as possible and I like to leave things as clean as I can before I leave just so the cleaners don't have too much to do, having said that it looked like it was just family working there. A very restless sleep and we didn't even see New Years out at 12am. When I handed the key back the owner seemed less than impressed so I apologised for being a bit late. He said check out is at 10 am and there is a charge but we won't charge you this time. I thanked him but knew I wasn't coming back anyway!
I suppose as long as you play by the rules and don't step a foot out of place you will like to stay here. I wouldn't bring children here either though.
Lets get a few facts right here -
unfortunately they are very inexperienced and unprofessional - but he backed it up by complaining about dirty carpet and bedspread which I will get to....
2) The extra person (child) that wasn't paid for was a 9 month old baby that I brought my own bedding and porta-cot for. My purchase for this accommodation was through wotif.com. I contact them via email and telephone as they are the middle people who help out with any questions or special requests in relation to the accommodation. I told them that I have a young baby but have his own bedding. They told me a child under 12 months is FREE but if I wanted to hire a porta-cot there would be a cost involved. I didn't think that I would need to contact the hotel (being STD number) and wotif (toll free) to confirm that there was a young baby...uuhh...extra person, would be with us. Perhaps if the owner is so unhappy about this then he should be liaising with wotif.com to sort this out rather than make his guests feel uncomfortable during their stay. Sorry to disappoint the owner so much but I was still breastfeeding at the time so I needed that extra person with me or the bedding would have had milk all over it - then it would have been something to complain about!
And while we're on the subject of the milk, it wasn't provided in the bar fridge like anything else so I went to the front desk and polity said, 'there isn't any milk in the fridge.' To which I got a reply, 'oh, isn't there......would you like some would you?'...
I mean, no I just thought I would tell you something you already knew...
The owner made it clear that he wasn't happy about the baby...ahh sorry, extra person staying with me because I got dirty looks every time I took him in and out of the car.
3) Please don't do these people any favours, I did and have been criticised for it, I cleaned the room to make it easier for the cleaners and took out our rubbish so I was there a bit longer. Basically I cleaned and tidied up so his cleaners didn't have to do so much. When I handed back the key, as he says - 1/2 hour late, the owner made it very clear that I was late, he said normally there is a late charge but I will let you off this time, his intimidation made me feel, and I did offer to pay extra....oh how noble of him :)
Dirty stains on the carpet? GOOD GRIEF SOMEONE CONTACT THE HOSPITALITY POLICE!! The colour of the carpet was chocolate brown and they can't have been too bad I certainly didn't see any with only 2 hours of light foot traffic and shoes off most of the time. For crying out loud and the owner complains about my heading! The bedspread? (HAVE THOSE POLICE ARRIVED YET?!) Again, the bedding was chocolate brown, one thing that was provided by them was a table and chairs so we ate there, - don't even think about it! - with a young baby...oops! - extra person - mind you that wasn't paid for, that doesn't sleep to well and keeps us up a bit during the night we like to get as much SLEEP as we can. I'm not going to launder their bedding and steam clean their carpets as well.
4) Getting facts right goes a long way, but a bit of friendliness goes even further. As they say, you gather more bees with honey than you do with vinegar.
5) I would just like to say after all of the above, I do not personally know these people and don't have a personal vendetta against them. I'm only stating the facts and giving my personal review as what this brilliant website is created for. I would like to thank the creators of this website and hope that it continues as it certainly helps me make decisions about where and when to stay places and more importantly that guests like me that have had good/bad experiences can share with others to have a happy and enjoyable stay. I haven't yet written any other reviews but will soon :) I haven't had an experience like this one and I hope to not again, that's why I love this site so much so that everyone that reads the reviews knows about the best places to stay. Anywhere I have stayed before, there has been no problems and sometimes had vouchers sent out to me, I'm a very easy going and quiet guest (even with the extra person ;). In my opinion, this isn’t a good place to stay, even as a last resort – People going to Warrnambool there is sooo much competition out there. Use this website and have a nice and enjoyable stay somewhere else.
