In the spirit of honest reviewing I will say that I didn't stay in this place despite having booked a triple room for 2 nights. I found somewhere nearer the town centre after being disappointed with room 7 which had been allocated to me.
This b&b has seemingly acquired a reputation for quality, but in the interests of balance you need to be aware of the following inaccurate and pretentious claims made by the owners on their website and in their business leaflet :
(1) "All rooms have balconies overlooking Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown and the Remarkables Mountain Range" [leaflet] . Not true. Room 7 had no balcony, no views, and overlooked nothing but the entrance with anyone entering the property able to see directly into your room. It felt more like a converted office/reception area.
(2) "5 minutes' walk to central Queenstown". Not true. The town's information centre (fairly central!) is 15 minutes away (per Google) and most shops and restaurants and the lakeside even further away. Oh, and there's also a steep hill for part of the way which they don't mention.
(3) "Inspired by traditional Swiss design". This might sound appealing to someone who's never been to Switzerland, but any resemblance to a traditional Swiss chalet is minimal. The property is hemmed in on all sides by other buildings and actually looks like it has been built in the previous garden of an adjacent property. It is quiet because it's on an anonymous suburban street well away from where you are likely to want to go in Queenstown.
The room I booked was sold to me as a triple, and the owner described it as the only room in the property capable of being sold thus. In fact all he had done was place a put-me-up single in a corner. Clearly this room is normally sold as a double. The room was not large to begin with so was definitely too small to be offered as a triple.
Consistent with the misleading presentation and pretentiousness, I suspect that this property is overpriced. For better value and better location, head further into town where there are superior packages available. For reference we ended up at the 4 star Hotel St.Moritz in a spacious apartment actually designed for more than 2 people. No included breakfast maybe but far more facilities, friendly staff, and NZD 10 less per night than The Chalet were charging! Oh, and it took only 5 minutes to walk into town from there - honest!
Room Tip: Avoid Room 7
