“Average motel”

Much of what was said is true. The staff is great. The price is right! 130 AUS, senior rate. But the rooms are somewhat seedy, internet too expensive (& the laundry & brkfst). Easy to find, is up a bit so you climb up the hill-but I like that, it's pretty invigorating, unless you ask my husband-he puffed a bit. There is actually a view and Q'town is beautiful. Take the peninsula garden walk. And go up Bob's Peak. Go on a river rafting trip! Need I mention Milford?! I saw someone in the jucuzzi (once) but it did NOT look inviting. The carpets need cleaning and the doors are so easy to "break" into, but it seems that everyone is respectful of everyone else's space. I find this true of most backpackers, especially if they are not at a hostel. We are seasoned middle-aged/senior travellers. I don't worry about theft much in NZ. And the reception did hold a few things for us in their safe. No fee. Believe me, I do my homework and this was the best price if you don't mind the has-ran appearance. I'm sorry I didn't get pix of hotel room-but it wasn't worth the memory space. Small, sparse amenities but functional. Bed I rate a C in comfy, but okay for me, same for the pillows. Cheers, Vicky

“Not bad for the price”

Although a bit worn at the edges, for an unexpensive motel in a tourist town, it was OK. There was a refrigerator, but no kitchen. The use of the motel laundry was expensive, so I suggest you do your laundry before getting to Queenstown. The breakfast they offered was very expensive compared to other places in NZ. The motel is a short walk to downtown. The only problem is that it is a 1.5 block climb back up the hill to return. If you walk an extra block , the route is less steep.

“Could have done better”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2007

On the plus side, the two bedroom suite we had was spacious, and it was the best value I could find in Queenstown for a two bedroom unit, but the overall inn seemed run-down and a bit depressing. The second bedroom had three twin beds, but the the third bed was positioned in such a way that the door could not close. Laundry facilities, while convenient, were in a cellar-type room, and cluttered with the hotel's laundry and cleaning items. At $10 per load to wash and dry (I had three loads to do!), it was pretty expensive.

“better than I expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2006

We planned our trip quite late, so it was quite hard for us to find a reasonable place to stay in Queenstown. Most motels were already booked out and it seemed like $270 a night was the cheapest option. We were very surprised when we found this lodge online because it was reasonably cheap and they still had rooms available over Christmas.

We were expecting the place to be really terrible, especially after reading the reviews here, but it was not too bad at all. The size of the room isn't that small, bathroom was clean, and there is a TV (no sky though).

The lodge is situated on a hill so walking back to the motel from the city centre can be a little tiring for some people but we found it ok (we are in our mid 20s). The air conditioning in the room was good, but the pillows gave me a sore neck. The staff aren't really that friendly, but I guess you get what you pay for.

“Wakey Wakey!”

Stayed for 3 nights whilst skiing near Queenstown. Plus points: good value, small balcony with view of lake, owner helpful, laundry available (bit expensive though). Minus points: a telephone alert bell connected to fire bell outside our room (why do people ring hotels at 0600hrs?), everything quite basic, not enough heating in room, bit of an uphill trek back from town (but work off that big dinner, fat-boy!). I think that this hotel is used to backpackers packing themselves into each room, and for this it a great choice. Not the place for a romantic escape, or for anyone expecting anything approaching luxury. Apart from the fire/telephone bell, no real complaints, but would not visit again.
