“8 fantastic days”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

6 of us from America , friends of John and Amanda from previous years on the Motor yacht Phoenix arrive in New Zealand on the 16th of January to be met at the airport by our wonderful hosts. We were taken to Queens town Lodge where we immediately felt right at home. The views of the mountains , the sheep and the gardens let you leave all the cares behind you.

There is lots to see and and do from shopping to walking nature trails ,visiting wineries Zip lining you might even catch a cricket game! or you can sit in the jacuzzi and just enjoy the scenery. Amanda is a superb cook and will bend over backward to accomodate your wishes Joh often helps and is very knowledge about wine. If it wasn't so far to travel i would visit every year. They will become you friends , friends you will never forget.

Best holiday ever!!!!!
We stayed with family in December over New Years and the stay was absolutely fantastic. Amanda and John are two of the nicest people I have met. The facilities are fantastic and location is idyllic. Would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone.

“Like Staying with Friends”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

Staying at Queenstown Country Lodge is like staying with friends....who happen to have a beautiful property. In a great location. With lots of ideas & suggestions on what to enjoy. And are great cooks with fantastic taste in wine. Who are also good fun to chat with and have a fantastic sense of humor.

Let's start with the property....
Queenstown Country Lodge is in a beautiful setting - rolling hills, sheep meandering, flower and vegetable gardens...and all just 10 minutes driving from the center of Queenstown. It's a great hopping off point for all things in and around Queenstown with easy access to wineries, nature hikes, etc.

The lodge itself is very comfortable with lots of open-plan common rooms and spacious guest rooms with well-equipped en suite bathrooms. Everything is well kept and there is lot of attention to detail designed to make you feel "at home".

And now to the best part, the people...
If the place itself wasn't lovely enough, your hosts - John and Amanda - make staying here an extra special experience. They are AMAZING people and wonderful hosts!

They're native Kiwis who have traveled the world and have worked in luxury and nature travel for many years. They're incredibly well-traveled, interesting people, yet totally down to earth. They'd have just as much fun chatting with you about rugby and sheep as they would about politics or religion.

They know so much about not only Queenstown, but all of New Zealand and had excellent tips, recommendations and connections. They're totally focused on guests having a great experience and arrange fun things like feeding baby sheep or pinot tastings.

We stayed at a lot of great B&Bs throughout our trip to NZ and have traveled all over the world...we've never had hosts who went above and beyond the way John and Amanda did.

We highly recommend a stay with John and Amanda at Queenstown Country Lodge. We not only have wonderful memories of our time in Queenstown, but we now also have some Kiwi friends that we'll keep in touch with through the years!

“One of the most incredible places I have ever stayed!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011

From the moment we arrived, John and Amanda made us feel so welcome and provided us with a luxury lodge that surpassed all of our expectations. My friends and I have traveled all over the world staying in some of the best 5 star resorts but I have to say that this was one of the best experiences we have ever had.

The property is absolutely beaurtiful with the house surrounded by the Remarkable Mountains, green grassy hills, the most adorable little lambs and Amanda's 700 peonies plants! We enjoyed just sitting out on the patio having a glass of wine and then relaxing in the hot tub. Within walking distance is a beautiful lake which is perfect for an early morning 3 to 6 mile walk. And that was in our downtime. I had corresponded with John multiple times before our trip regarding things we would like to do and he assisted with every little detail in what ended up being a very full itinerary. There is so much to do in Queenstown! And all within a short distance of the Lodge. John planned everything to perfection. The tour guides even told me how John had double checked on the arrangements to make sure everything was in order. We did the Shotover Jet, Wine Tastings, Dart River, Horseback riding, paraglding and even flew to/from Milford Sound and cruised the Sound....all in 4 days!

John and Amanda renovated the lodge for guests and have done a remarkable job. Every little detail has been considered. There are 3 spacious ensuited guestrooms that have incredible beds and high quality linens, plenty of storage space, seating areas, heated towel racks, bathrobes, ipod docks, etc. But the best part is the little touches such as the pieces of lavendar or chocolates that get left in the room during the turndown service, the water pitcher placed by the bed at night, the incredible bath products in the very spacious and modern bathrooms and the tea, coffee and refrigerated drinks, along with sweet little treats, located in the hallway right outside the bedrooms.

Of course I have to save the best for last. The Food! Amanda is such an amazing cook that she should be called a Chef! Despite coming in with a list of restaurants that we wanted to try in the area we ended up eating dinner at the Lodge two of the four nights. And really, we probably could have eaten there every night but figured Amanda probably deserved a break from us! Everything was cooked to perfection and was presented so nicely that it could have been photographed for a cookbook. Multiple items are placed out for breakfast which would actually be more than enough to eat. But then, Amanda hands you a menu of about 6 different types of breakfasts, she takes your order and immediately goes into action and.... Voila!....sets a beautiful plate in front of you with a made to order hot breakfast! I don't eat meat or eggs so Amanda completely worked around those items for me. The first night for dinner we were served Thai marinated Salmon on a crisp asian salad which was wonderful but then we came to find out that was only the starter! We were then served a fish entree with sides as well as a beautiful dessert. Of course, we had some wine as well. The Pinot Noirs from the South Island are very nice.

The Queenstown Country Lodge was an incredible place to stay but it was really John and Amanda that made the experience special for us. We left them feeling as though we will be life-long friends. They just seem to love people and would honestly do just about anything to make sure you have a wonderful time.

Room Tip: I stayed in the Pinot Room which had a jet tub and shower.
