If you are looking for a comfortable B&B in Queenstown, Hikurangi Lodge is the place to stay. It is situated fairly high up on the hill behind the main town with spectacular views over the lake. We could walk into the town in 15 mins, although it was a steep walk back! I was travelling with a friend, and although the bathroom was not en-suite, we were fortunate enough that we were the only guests staying in that part of the house so that we had the use of the bathroom all to ourselves. However, the hosts are most accommodating and I believe there are rooms with en-suite facilities. Our room was a very good size with an amazing view over Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu. Out of all the B&B's we stayed in we rated this one of the best, partly due to the breakfasts we had! We filled in a menu the night before, and the choice was huge. We stayed a week and really looked forward to our breakfasts each morning! Nothing was too much trouble for the hosts, who went out of their way to look after us and give us useful information about activities and places to see. Even when we returned to the B&B late afternoon, we were offered tea and cake. We felt really at home there and were looked after extremely well. The beds were comfortable and it was quiet, comfortable and clean with no noise or traffic noise at night.

Barry and Shirley provide a service that makes you feel like you're at home away from home. My favorite moment was playing cards with them during some down time at the house. They are true professionals in the business, and they make everything so easy. I have never seen such a clean house. The view is absolutely STUNNING because you drive a good bit up the hills to get there - well worth it!! The food is delicious and there is so much choice. Everything was wonderfully comfortable, and I have to say again that Barry and Shirley are top-notch folks. Warm, generous, caring and funny! We had a fantastic time.

Shirley and Barry are ever so warm, it was like having parents in Queenstown!!! The B&B is par excellence, with the most spectacular views of the Remarkables and Cecil Peak. We stayed in the Honeymoon Suite and I was really curious to see if the view from the bath tub was actually as good as the pictures. Lets just say that the pictures really did not do justice to how amazing the town looks from above !!!! Barry and Shirley make such a cute couple and we loved chatting with them over breakfast. The breakfast itself was quite a lavish spread (I had a hard time not over eating) overlooking the gorgeous views from huge glass windows. The entire house is filled with little pieces, old artifacts, pictures, whatnots and you could spend hours admiring everything. We were welcomed in our warm room with baked goodies, chocolates and complimentary wine. Even the bath salts in the jacuzzi were perfect for the sore muscles after a day of skiing and bungy jumping.
Overall, I hated leaving Queenstown because Shirley and Barry made it feel like home. We even forgot our laptop because we were so sad to say byes ... Shirley and Barry tried to catch up but finally we ended up going back to say goodbye one more time!! We will definitely visit again ....

Barry & Shirley Meyer are the most kind and wonderful people we've ever met. Their kindness and generosity is fabulous. A great property with stunning views and super comfortable bedroom and bathroom with the beautiful mountain views. We were made to feel like part of the family and played cards into the evening, and the following morning were kindly driven to the airport. Nothing was too much for them. A big hug to bid farewell was like bidding family goodbye and a wonderful experience from people we met the night before. Long live and good health Barry & Shirley!
