“Impeccable”

When our sister-in-law was able to schedule a brief visit to New Zealand ( her first) on a hectic round the globe business trip, we wanted her to have the optimal experience in the Queenstown area. Friends recommended Mt. Rosa Lodge. We are so glad we took their advice!

Mt. Rosa Lodge is perfection from arrival to most reluctant departure. The lodge is tucked into a hillside, perched above sun-soaked vineyards, and as you wind your way through the pastoral setting on the approach you can feel the stresses of life evaporate.

Sitting on the patio, sipping expertly chosen wines and enjoying delicious nibbles with the gracious Maureen and Brian, was a real pleasure. Moving inside to a gourmet dinner showcasing such New Zealand culinary specialties as Stewart Island salmon and West Coast whitebait fritters was also a delight. Breakfast was irresistible, even after resolutions made after the feast the night before.

Maureen and Brian's warmth and hospitality and attention to detail make them the perfect hosts. They are sensitive to individual guest's needs, available and accessible but also not the slightest bit imposing.

The Lodge suites are impeccable, the decor throughout is tasteful and distinctive and the design of the lodge maximizes panoramic views of mountain, valley and vineyards. The Gibbston Valley location is ideal- an easy and scenic drive into Queenstown and Arrowtown- so one can enjoy the best of both worlds.

We are so glad to have experienced the wine country's best kept ( no longer!) secret, and were so pleased to be able to share this treasure with our family.

“Best Ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We decided to try something different for a two night stay in Gibbston Valley. What absolute luck that we happened on Mount Rosa Lodge! We did not know what to expect from a boutique lodge and were blown away by the beauty of the place, the wonderful hosts, the meals and the best ever shower and bed we have ever had away from home. Maureen and Brian are very friendly and helpful and said it was nice for them to have Kiwis to stay. And what a sight it was to see the flocks of Quail running across the road and feeding under the bushes in the garden. We will definitely be making it a yearly excursion, not for any other reason than as a destination where we can relax in the beauty and peace and quiet.

Room Tip: Only three rooms and all perfect.

“Pure bliss ...”

We just spent 3 nights of our South Island stay at Mt Rosa and it was pure bliss. Everything including the location at the top of the Mt Rosa vineyard was perfect for our honeymoon and much needed relaxation. Driving up to the lodge, you see rabbits along the bush, green vines and mountains. Everything was perfect, the Mt Rosa Suite, the welcome hamper with champagne and chocolates and so much else. The little things made it better - the cheese, the decor, fluffy bedroom slippers, luxurious bathrobe, spa bath with bath salts, there was even the option of non-allergic pillows or down pillows. And the living room is even more amazing; it looks like something straight out of a home and decor magazine. I don't need to go into more detail about the location and decor, the previous reviews say it all! Most of all, Brian and Maureen were lovely, welcoming and such accommodating hosts who helped with our numerous queries. It's so interesting to hear their stories and hear about the wine and vineyard. On new year's eve, we had a great meal with a bunch of interesting folks, good conversation, sat in front of an open fire outdoors next to the vines and we even met the pioneer of the Gibbston valley wineries! Can't wait to be back!

Room Tip: The Mt Rosa suite has a spa bath!

“Out of this world!”

This is my second stay at Mt Rosa. Just once is not good enough! It's hard to describe the exprience in words. First of all, the location is just stunning. Located in Gibbston valley away from the noise and crowd of Queenstown, the setting is truly picturesque! You'd want to go there again and again to recharge your mind, body and soul.
Next the room (Mt Rosa Suite) is absolutely beautiful. The decor, sense, large jet bath, the big patio space, everything is picture perfect.
Now what takes this place from excellent to "out-of-this-world" are the hosts Maureen & Dennis. They are amazing company, and have thought of everything for your comfort. Maureen is very accomodating, and she even prepared baby meals for my son at no extra charge. She's also a great cook and the dinner we had with them was one of our best meals in NZ! I am still drooling over the meringue with strawberry and cream! Brian is always ready with suggestions on where to eat, what to do and which wine to taste.
We are sure we are going to visit Mt Rosa again in the future.
If you want to be away from the crowds, want peace and tranquility and want to experience something different, this is it. I'd not stay anywhere else in Queenstown.

“Mt Rosa Lodge - Hidden Treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2011

We just returned from 3 nights at Mt Rosa Lodge, the highlight of our trip to the South Island. Impeccably clean, unbelievable views, extremely welcoming hosts, a relaxing haven.

Mt Rosa Lodge is in the Gibbston Valley, about a 10 minute drive to Arrowtown and a 20 minute drive to Queenstown. This is the perfect place to experience both the serenity and scenery of the Valley with the bustle and buzz of Queenstown which is right on your doorstep.

My husband and I would whole-heartedly recommend Mt Rosa Lodge as a luxurious, 5 star B&B. Brian and Maureen also made great food and wine recommendations in both Queenstown and Arrowtown.
