Primary reason for choosing this motel was its proximity to the University of Otago to attend a conference. Stayed in a two room renovated apartment. It was on the ground floor close to the (main) road, so quite noisy. Thankfully the bedrooms were on the back wall, furthest from the roadside, so sleep was not too disrupted by traffic. Firstly the good: relatively large, with very large bathroom; glass shower; electric blankets (which was a plus, since the apartment was not well heated or insulated). But there were also some dodgy things: prongs on the power cord for the heater were very loose and did not seem safe (reception advised "it should be OK to use"...); electric blankets heated to very hot levels; electric blanket cord for the upper bunk bed dangled dangerously over the head of the lower bunk bed; very few power points, so had to choose between using the electric blanket or lamp; obvious large holes (about a foot long) in the timber flooring under the carpet. Reception were not particularly welcoming, and it was also fairly disappointing that four adults were given a two room apartment with bunk beds. The only way we could tell we had a renovated apartment was from other reviews of this hotel... The renovated rooms are still very dated.
