The buffet breakfast is the best that I have had in all the hotels that I have stayed in in NZ.
The bed was the softest most cloud like bed that I have ever stayed in. They include a pillow menu in the room pack. Which I find great as most hotels only give you the manky manmade fibre ones which are too hard. My partner, whom is allergic to dust and feathers didn't find the goose down bedding a problem. Great news for me!
We stayed in a mid range room and it was fantastic. Very spacious and included a sofa.
Didn't have free cookies though.
The staff were very welcoming and courtious.
I strongly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Dunedin.
Watch out for the parking though - it's $11.50 a night and they expect you to hand over your keys. The hotel is quite central though - and is next to the casino and a few bars.
The TV had a good selection of channels, including sky movies and 3 sports channels.

The Southern Cross is the best hotel I've stayed in in Dunedin. We had a superior room and I would recommend paying the extra money rather than taking a standard room. The extra space is worth it. Have stayed in a standard room before and the room and bathroom are both very cramped. Not the case with the superior. The bed is amazing - huge king and very comfortable. We didn't weant to leave. Great location - we walked to the Octogon for dinner and was a short and safe stroll home later at night. Casino is right next door. Only downside is having to pay for parking. Other than that - highly recommend.

Our tour group stayed for 2 nights. We found the hotel ideally placed for getting out and about. Our room was comfortable and very quiet at night. Breakfast was good, as was the one evening meal we had in the hotel. Service was very pleasant and generally more efficient than many of the hotels we stayed in over a 5 week period.

Part of the Thomas Cook Tour. Room 374 overlooking the car park. Central location for amenities. Good bathrooms. Good hearty breakfast.
