There are two parts to this large hotel, each with their own set of lifts to access the guest rooms. Between them lie a casino,a coffee shop, and a bar. My room on a high floor of the part further away from reception appeared to have been recently refurbished. It had all the expected facilities, including a comfortable bed. One disadvantage was that to use the two coin-operated laundry facilities it was necessary to go down to the ground floor, walk through the casino lobby, and then go up in the lifts in the other part of the building. Three trips - one to put the clothes in, two to move them to the dryer, and three to collect them. Maybe laundry facilities could be provided in both parts of the hotel? While the service was fine, it was a bit impersonal - I don't remember being called by name by any of the staff throughout my visit. The restaurant was also perfectly acceptable without being outstanding in any way - one item I had ordered had to be changed because of "an incident in the kitchen". The location is reasonably convenient for the Octagon at the centre of Dunedin and the fantastic railway station. There are also very good shopping facilities nearby.
