“Good visit spoiled”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2012

We stayed here for two 3 night stays and the first one was perfect, with a great room, large bathroom and convenient kitchen. The second stay should have been even better as we had a special package including free breakfasts, bottle of wine and chocolate treat on arrival. However on returning around 10 pm on the second night our key card would not open the room door. The night staff tried various pass keys but after about 45 mins announced that we would have to sleep in another room until they could get a specialist to open the door in the morning. Of course all our clothes, toiletries etc were in our room so we were very unhappy but had no choice. The following morning the front desk had not been informed at all of the problem but fortunately the day porter, unlike the night one, had been trained for this problem and was able to open the door in a few minutes. This could have been a major disaster if it had occurred on our 3rd night as we had a very early flight the next morning!
All in all a nice visit spoiled by inadequate staff training.

Room Tip: best away from the Cuba Street side as this can get a bit noisy.

Hi RMC1314,
Thank you for taking the time to tell me about your experience at the CQ Hotels Wellington. I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies.
It is very unfortunate to read that you experienced a disappointing level of service from the Reception desk. We endeavour to provide an excellent customer experience for every guest and in this instance it seems not to have been the case.
Your feedback has been forwarded to the Front Office Manager highlighting to her the importance of high level of customer service and the need to train equally both day & night teams. This will help minimizing the possibility of this happening in the future. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
Once again, I really appreciate you sharing your concerns and am looking forward to welcoming you again in the near future.
Sincerely,
Olivier Lacoua

“Excellent value and quality for family...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2012

I have now stayed at the Quality Hotel in Wellington four times and have booked again for a future trip in May. Why? Excellent value - if you get a good internet price for a very large room with two queen size beds. Our trips to Wellington have often been with a teenager in tow, to check out the university etc - so it has been a good place to stay without having to book an extra room. The rooms are huge. No view to speak of - other than the apartment block immediately beside - this last visit in Feb we had a 3rd floor room with only half the normal windows as the gym was right beside but it was still perfectly fine.
First impressions of the hotel aren't spectacular as you walk into the lobby off Cuba St... but it is right in the heart of the interesting part of the city. Lots of great cafes and interesting shops close by... Cuba St is a little bit seedy but totally charming and full of action.
A couple of visits we had a car and the provided parking was fine, with good access directly into the hotel - it does cost $20 a night though.
Reviewers have complained about the lack of air conditioning - and maybe it is a problem on a hot Wellington day, but we have never found it to be overly hot and have always opened a window which is a bonus. The bathrooms are modern and of a good standard - although, yes, some of the showers overflow onto the tiles a bit.... but not really a huge issue.

Room Tip: Probably best to get a higher floor level for quietness....

“Bad service.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2012

Mostly the hotel was fine, the rooms were nice, minus the lack of aircon, but i cannot understand why a roll out bed for an extra guest could not be found due it being 10pm when we arrived. We thought one had been ordered, not sure if this was ours or the hotels fault, but plans do change and the staff memeber in question was less than accomodating meaning one of our guests actually had to sleep on the hard floor overnight. Certainly not acceptable for 4 star hotel.

“A busy weekend”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2012

The 1st impression of our room was great. Location is great..and it generally was but the downfalls were the room was sooo HOT, no air conditioning!! We had to have the one little window open 24/7 so we got all the street noise and had two fans going! The other downfall is the showers, the water goes everywhere and takes a while to drain down! The reception staff were less than par, we were traveling down in two cars and after traveling 5 hours got told there was no car parking available and to park over the road at Marion st...that was fine until the lady at front desk gave us the wrong tickets for the car which weren't valid and by the time we realised we were locked in. So they woke me at 6am to go put a new one on the car...the lady was so hard to deal with didn't even know of the places we were talking about such as the car park across the road..to top it off we got trapped in the lift and we got left there for over 30mins with staff coming to tell us that help was on the way once before leaving us stuck in it.....overall for the price we paid, I was NOT impressed...if it wasn't such a busy weekend in wellington we would have changed hotels

“Ticks plenty of boxes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Our room was big, bright, clean and modern - very comfortable for our family of four. One unusual thing we loved was the ability to open a window in the room - so many hotels are unbearably stuffy at night so it was great to have this. The location on Cuba St is fantastic. You step out into Wellington at its quirky best and there is heaps to see within an easy walk of the hotel. The pool and spa are lovely and modern. We paid to use the hotel car park, which they say is off site. We accessed it from the adjacent street and it opened into the hotel lift, so it was as good as on site. The 30-min free internet session was handy for booking our next place to stay and the 11am check-out meant the kids could have another swim in the morning. Our only constructive criticism would be re the design fault in the shower, which is barely enclosed by short glass panels, so water goes everywhere, but it is just water and we just recycled used towels as extra bathmats. Overall, we had a great stay and would definitely stay again and recommend.
