My hubby and I stayed here for 3 nights in early Jan 2010. Location is excellent, two minute walk to Cuba St with all it's attractions and 10 min walk to I Site and Civic Centre (Te Papa, Galleries, etc). Rooms are quite basic but have all you need and a very well provisioned kitchen area. We had a studio room which is small but perfectly adequate. Small bathroom with shower and toiletries provided. Kitchen had an oven, hob, microwave, fridge, all plates, cutlery and pans etc that you need. Small desk and wardrobe. There is a laundry room on the 5th floor which is handy. We found the reception staff very friendly - the light bulb in the bedsite lamp was not walking and this was replaced promptly on request.

A compact, convenient and excellent value place to stay.

The location is superb, just on the corner of Cuba Street. The two bedroom apartment that we got was really tiny. Rooms were very small, and furnishings were very basic. Had expected the apartment to be a bit bigger and we were disappointed.

Found the staff very helpful and friendly. We had one double room and one two room apartment. Smallish but very adaquate for the price. The rooms were showing their age but seemed clean and tidy. The beds were very comfortable - I want one! We were supplied with clean towels/soap/tea/coffee each day over the 3 nights. The tv was small but they had free internet which was easy to set up and was of a good speed. I could not fault the helpfulness of the staff. No free parking in the area except for Sunday. Easy to walk to main attractions and for a night out on the town. Would definitely stay there again. The pub next door had very friendly staff and we enjoyed two good meals there. It was quiet enough but it is central to the city so you do get city noises but not really a worry.

I stayed at Southern Cross Apartments for a week in October 2009. For $66 NZD per night (weekly rate) for a studio apartment, I got great value for money. I booked directly on their website and had no problems with check-in. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, the shower was great, and the kitchen had everything I needed. The apartment was in a great location, really close to Cuba street and close enough to walk anywhere downtown. Free wired internet in the room was a definite plus! The only downside was the fan in the bathroom was noisy when it got windy outside, which was really annoying. But otherwise, a great stay!

I would definitely recommend this place, especially at their weekly rate. I don't think you could find better for $66/night.
