“very little to complain about with this hotel-staff excellent”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2012

Had a two-bedroom suite for six nights around the Wellington sevens time at the start of February. Really do not think it is a five-star but probably a reasonable four-star property. Reception and consumers staff were really good and the location was ideal for access to shopping, restaurants and the waterfront and the Westpac Stadium (15 min walk). Suite was a little on the smallish side but adequate with two bedrooms with king-size beds (one room has an ensuite and there was a spare bathroom and toilet for use by the other bedroom). Cleaning staff were good and efficient and we really could not complain about anything.
A good nights sleep with no real noise problems except for a size 5 earthquake at six o'clock one morning. At this stage, I don't think the Bolton can guarantee against earthquakes.
good coffee at the little coffee shop near reception. Tried the restaurant on our first night after arriving late from a flight from Australia-reviewed separately. It is only new needs a little bit of time to settle down before we would consider trying it again. Probably the only thing that let the hotel down a little bit

Would stay there again

“Love it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

The location is quite but close to everything + our room looked onto the old cemetery . The hotel even has 2 robes , instead of the 1 you normally get in other hotels . Breakfast is simple but very tasty with NZ local produce . I usually prefer hotel staff to be more experienced as most were in there early 20's but they were always frriendly . Would definitley stay there again !

Room Tip: Rooms looking onto the old cemetery :)

“Good location, good room but offensive service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We stayed for 3 nights in a one bedroom apartment. The Hotel's location is good being at the Beehive end of The Terrace area. The apartment was well appointed with everything you could possibly need for a short stay. We arrived at 3pm but were told our room was not ready for another half an hour. We were fine with this as we could go out sightseeing straight away and check-in could be delayed till our return at 5pm which is what occurred. The weather was lovely and our 3 days could have been a great stay. Unfortunately it was marred by our receipt of an offensive note on the 2nd day from the duty manager who in no uncertain terms accused us of smoking in the room and threatened us with a fine of $500 for cleaning up the smoke. Our issue was that we hadn't smoked in the room and there was no smell of smoke in the room. My husband has smoked on the street and because he wasn't a litter bug, he had snubbed out his cigarettes and kept his stubs which he duly disposed off in our apartment rubbish bin. I explained this to the receptionist who then argued with me that the presence of stubs amounted to smoking. I told him that this is clearly not right and I challenged him to get the duty manager to come to our room to smell it. The receptionist argued that there would be no point as there would now be no smell in our room which had by then been cleaned. Finally on our last day, when we requested our check out to be delayed to 12.30pm, we were told that that is not possible as a 12.30pm checkout is not allowed. This is despite the fact that our check-in was delayed by a few hours after published check-in time. The Bolton is supposed to be a 5 star hotel but instead we felt like we were in a borstal where your every move is monitored, criticised and hindered. We certainly won't be coming back.

“My favorite hotel in Welly!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

The Bolton is a charming, intimate hotel -not too big; not too small. The 2 bedroom; 2 bath suites are perfect. My only disappointment is that the previous head chef has left and the menu has lost a bit of pizazz.

“Awesome Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Stayed here with my gf for a special occasion. Room was huge, and extremely clean. Comfy bed and huge bathroom. Ordered roomservice. Best steak Ive ever eaten. The ribeye is a must have, with the blue butter! Would stay just to have the steak again! Thanks Bolton staff, was a great night.
