“Old charm in the windy city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We stayed for 2 nights at the Wellesley Boutique Hotel at the end of January 2012. It's a lovely old building and full of charm. There are only a few rooms and ours was certainly spacious, located on the top floor.

There was some building work going on next door that we weren't advised about when we booked, so we awoke to thumping and drilling one morning. If you are a light sleeper and want a lie in, you might want to check how long it is going on for.

The reception is not manned after 9pm, so if you are arriving late, be aware that the doors are locked - although you can contact the duty manager "out of hours".

Tea and coffee making facilities are provided in the room, along with satellite TV, bath robes and slippers, deep soaking bath tub and large separate shower. The toiletries are Molton Brown, which are good quality and provided in plentiful quantities.

Parking is very expensive in Wellington and the hotel does not have a car park. There was a very expensive multi-storey immediately opposite, but we opted for the cheaper open air parking at the port, where 24 hours costs NZ$21....not too bad. As the car park is a pay and display and the ticket has an expiry time, you can come and go as you please.

Overall, a nice hotel and in a good location - 5 minutes walk into the centre of Wellington and perhaps 15 minutes from Te Papa Museum. If we were ever in Wellington again, we would stay here.

“Always a great place to stay in Wellington”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Booked directly through the website. Cheaper than some of the wotif sites. Got a classic (basic) queen room, which turned out to be quite lovely and more than adequate for our needs. High ceilings, beautifully decorated, immaculate bathroom with clawfooted tub and bathing products from Molten Brown. We arranged a 24hr $25 parking voucher on arrival at reception for the parking building nearby as there is only restricted parking on the street. The location of the hotel is very handy for the city centre as well as the ferry terminal. We've stayed here a number of times in the past and never been disappointed with the old-world charm and excellent service.

“Lovely High Tea”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

This place had come highly recommended so a friend and I went along for High Tea one afternoon. $28 each for a fab selection of sandwiches, cakes and teas and the decor of the hotel was very elegant. Plus the staff were lovely and friendly with great service. Would go again.

“Old world charm in NZ”

I stayed for two nights in this lovely boutique hotel. It was very reminiscent of an old school Gentlemen's club and still has a members facility there. Christof and Hannah at the front desk couldn't have been more helpful and kindly upgraded me to a room with a view, when I was unhappy with the view from the room that I originally had. I recommend booking the executive or better rooms for the views of the harbour. Would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for an executive or better with a view of Wellington harbour

“Comfortable and unique place in Central Wellington”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

I have stayed here twice now, and very much enjoyed both stays. The rooms are decorated nicely and the public areas have a very clubby feel (perhaps since the place used to be a club). The location is excellent, very close to the shops and Te Papa and many good restaurants. The breakfast is very nicely done and overall I feel very welcome when I come here. My one quibble--the internet access is very inconvenient to use, since it's based on access codes that only give 50mb of access at a time, so i found I went through them very quickly. But that is a minor complaint overall, and is probably easily rectified.
