We stayed for 2 nights at the Wellesley Boutique Hotel at the end of January 2012. It's a lovely old building and full of charm. There are only a few rooms and ours was certainly spacious, located on the top floor.
There was some building work going on next door that we weren't advised about when we booked, so we awoke to thumping and drilling one morning. If you are a light sleeper and want a lie in, you might want to check how long it is going on for.
The reception is not manned after 9pm, so if you are arriving late, be aware that the doors are locked - although you can contact the duty manager "out of hours".
Tea and coffee making facilities are provided in the room, along with satellite TV, bath robes and slippers, deep soaking bath tub and large separate shower. The toiletries are Molton Brown, which are good quality and provided in plentiful quantities.
Parking is very expensive in Wellington and the hotel does not have a car park. There was a very expensive multi-storey immediately opposite, but we opted for the cheaper open air parking at the port, where 24 hours costs NZ$21....not too bad. As the car park is a pay and display and the ticket has an expiry time, you can come and go as you please.
Overall, a nice hotel and in a good location - 5 minutes walk into the centre of Wellington and perhaps 15 minutes from Te Papa Museum. If we were ever in Wellington again, we would stay here.
