“Unique and great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

I booked in to stay at the Ohtel as I wanted something a little bit different than a standard hotel and I was very impressed. The hotel is ideally located a little bit away from the main part of the city - about 15 minutes walk - but is right next to the harbour. My room looked right over the water and it was lovely being able to stroll out to watch the boats at any time of the day or night.

The rooms are all individualised and very comfortable. The bathroom has heated floors and my room also had a little sitting area looking out over the water. Everything was clean and the mini-bar was well stocked, although I did not use it.

The staff were incredibly helpful but not overbearing. There is a small 'cafe' downstairs which does coffee and can provide breakfast as well.

I would definitely stay here again

“Something different”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Stayed for 2 nights over New Year and loved the place. Allan has done a great job in creating something different. If you enjoy the big brand hotels (read buffet breakfasts and crowded "lounge bars") then this hotel is not for you. But if you enjoy boutique hotels with attention to detail and a personal visit - then I would highly recommend this. Good location with easy access to waterfront and local restaurants/cafe's and bars.

Room Tip: Best rooms with view to waterfront.

“Great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

The location can't be beat, and the hotel is super clean and very quiet. The rooms are well decorated, but it was kind of wasted on us as my husband, daughter, and I had to move everything around to make room for our suitcases. We did not have a view, but I can say that even without a view this is a nice little spot to stay. And they do provide breakfast for an extra charge. Lastly, Alan, the owner, was very helpful and friendly when helping us organize our daily activities and recommending places to eat. I would definitely stay at Ohtel again.

“Christmas Holidays 2011”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

My wife and I stayed at Ohtel for one night; it was a nice setting with fantastic views of Wellington harbour. The staff was so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The location is ideal to explore the city and also walking distance to catch the ferry to South Island

“Lovely Decor - missing some details”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

I booked a Studio Room last year which I really liked decor wise. This hotel has a great location, nice rooms and a cosy feel, best for couples or a business person who wants something a bit more personal. However I was disappointed about the details at the time which were missing. This is one of the only hotels in Wellington that bothers to provide something for you to play your Ipod on which is a bonus.

For the price it would have been nice to have been presented with something at breakfast or at least be given the option of purchasing it thought by the sounds of it from other reviews it isn't worth the cost when for $22 you can get a fabulous brunch and coffee at Beach Babylon just down the road.

The vegetarian platter I ordered for lunch was very nice and a reasonable price for what I received.

First thing: the bathroom sink was clogged, I mentioned this to reception and someone tried to fix it but couldn't however I suspect that this issue was already known to them.

The toilet roll holder was almost detached from the wall and about to fall off.

Wardrobe door wouldn't shut properly, hung half ajar all the time (small but still nigglingly annoying for a top price hotel)

Also other travelers have mentioned that they felt ripped off by the extra charges for toiletries and I remember myself being surprised when I unpacked a generically packaged razor from the bathroom cupboard to see afterwards that this was an "extra" and cost about $6 from memory. If the packaging hadn't been generic and hadn't looked like hotel bathroom stuff I wouldn't have been so surprised. I bought the bath salts from reception, would have been better to have had them in room and to have very clearly displayed the prices rather than removing them to reception.

Room Tip: definitely make sure you know what you are getting, claims of spa baths are made on website but not...
