I actually had a fantastic time staying here and I went for a work trip, so that's saying something :) I got a poolside room, very spacious and clean, good amenities and air con.

A live band played Saturday evening and I got to see the stairway to the moon - this is a great location to view this. It had a very relaxed balinese feel - the only thing that let it down was the service, limited staff training was evident at check-in.

The Mangrove is now one of the cheapest options in Broome.
Rooms are a bit shabby but are sufficient. There is hot water in the mornings (unlike the Mecure Continental) and it is quiet.

Staff are not too helpful and it took me three phone calls to get an email confirmation of my booking and even then I was not given the rate that I had been quoted. However, other colleagues have not had this problem.

Restaurant has excellent deals including $10 pizzas on Mondays. If you want to take your leftovers with you you will need to proove that you are staying at the hotel before they will wrap your plate in tin foil and give it to you on a tray. If you are not staying there, bad luck.

Bar is well appointed with a great view over the bay.

Worst accommodation experience I have had in all of Australia. The place is run by inexperienced, rude, uninterested and very unhelpful staff that would be better placed working as the Gestapo. Amongst other things, were stayed there to see the stairway to the moon and learned that it is not the only nor the best place to see it. Meals were ordinary, bar surprising; bottled beer came in glass tap beer and mixed drinks in plastic cups! Rooms were very ordinary. With so many places to stay, our three rooms checked out and spent the rest of our stay at "Broome Time" a very welcoming motel. I would not recommend this place to anyone... will never go back.

Despite the prime position to view the staircase to the moon The Mongrove Hotel lacked in many other ways. We booked a front row outdoor dining experience that boasted a 3 course ala carte meal. The medium prime rib was well done and refused by both chefs and mangers a refund. The crispy skinned bara was soggy skinned and also contained many fine bones despite been advertised as a fillet. Not to mention the fact that we waited almost two full hours for our main course, even though we were told to come back later when we asked to be seated.

If you think that I may be complaining......there were 3 other tables who were waiting at the reception desk to complain to the chef / manager about the meal and service they received. Another was so fed up he just walked out without paying.

Go to Matso's Brewery, great food and beer and just as good a view.

The waitresses at Mangrove were fabulous. They did the best they could with what they had. 3 waitresses for the whole booked area. They were lovely and dealt with the ongoing complaints with dignity and grace. Their manager should be proud. As for the rest.....Shame Shame Shame.
