Mangrove located within crime hot spot, with indifferent staff.
food not bad, location handy to Downtown. nice views.
no security. anyone can gain acess to grounds and try doors.
my wallet was stolen from our room while we slept.

We weren't staying at the Mangrove hotel, however we decided to eat dinner there one night int the restaurant to watch the Stairway to the Moon.

We were met by a nice enough staff member who sat us down near the window and got us water. 15 minutes later she hadn't returned when I managed to catch her eye - when she finally served us, she said 'I'm sorry, I forgot you were here'. I'd like to point out there were 5 tables in the restaurant with 2 staff members - not exactly a busy evening.

She then advised they didn't have the wine we wanted (and it's not a very extensive list to start with), She then came back 10 minutes later to advise they had run out of the entree I ordered - how somewhere in the tropics runs out of advocado is beyond me??

Another 10 minutes later we hadn't received drinks so we flagged down the other staff member. The first waitress returned to the table admitting she had forgotten to order our drinks.

FINALLY we received our entrees - the breads were unimpressive and the scallops were overcooked. I had the special Duck for main which had potential, however there was hardly any meat on the bone. My husband had the lamb rack which was completely fatty and excessively undercooked.

While the staff were nice enough, I can honestly say the best part of our meal was the water!!

I would not recommend this hotel to stay at . In arrival we checked into a room full if hair ,ants, mould and suspicious stains on the bed . We asked to be moved and were upgraded to there best room to discover it was in the same condition . Manager has no idea on the key word in her role being "manage" with customer service . The staff had no direction or idea on there roles . The whole venue requires a face lift . The mangrove had so much potential it just needs a competent owner/ manager to drive change .

I thought i would take my partner here for a supprise over xmas we booked in on the 24th and 25th December 2010 the only supprise to us was the state of the HASS SUITE it was absolutley disgusting there was rat droppings around and under the frige the window sills were full of dead flys and bugs the kettle was green in side the floor had piles of dirt in various places and not been cleaned for ages the room had a horrible odour about it complained to management nothing done they did not care they had our moeny $225 per night we have photos for any one that wants to see them
