“a beach to ourselves”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

Went in the wet (low) season and almost had the beach to ourselves. We chose to stay at a beach hut and it was fantastic. Awesome spot right near the water and only one other hut was occupied. We had a shower and tap as well as picnic table in the hut. There was enough space to put up a small tent at night and we spent alot of time doing nothing. Snorkeling was decent, better at low tide, the beach was super clean but with alot of large rocks you need to maneuver around. At night there were hermit crabs, frogs, fireflies and of course mozzies. Note that in the low season the restaurant isn't open so bring all your food (though the water from taps is fine to drink). Also petrol may not be available on the road up from Broome although there is some available 24 hours at the tip (17km further than Kooljaman). The dirt section of the road can also be slow going and tedious and needs a 4wd.

“Relaxing and friendly”

Have lived in the Pilbara many years and just never ventured further than Broome until recently. WOW......this place is soooo very relaxing and easy. We took the camper trailer and the kids and drove, bumped and dusted our way to Kooljaman. We enjoyed every moment from the squeky clean white sand to the the superb sunset. We had a powered site which could only use for the fridge and not toaster etc which they did advise of me when we checked in ( i forgot to mention this to the hubby and we ended up tripping our power out) but was fixed in no time.

We took trips out to all the surrounding areas and had lunch in the little pearl farm near One Arm Point - what a little oasis that place is.....overall would highly reccomend the trip.

did not eat at the resturant but had a few mixed reports from our "neighbours" at the camp site.

We met heaps of peole - some driving from adelaide and NSW every year with their little ones for the annual 2 week family holiday

I needed medcial asistance due to some food bacteria i picked up in Broome on the way there and drove to One Arm point but the doc was in Lombadina for the day so we headed out there. It was a 3 hour wait to see the doc but if this option was not there we would have had to cut the trip short.

Thanks Kooljaman staff and owners for taking so much pride and effort in letting this little place remain so basic and natural. We will be back - this time for much longer

“Great place to relax”

We spent 4 nights in a safari tent near the lighthouse. We were pleasantly surprised to find the road sealed from before the Beagle Bay turn off. On our last visit 15 years ago it was corrugations all the way.

Great views from the large balcony down to the beach. Tent spacious with a Q'S bed and 2 singles. Ensuite with shower and small kitchen area with full size fridge, electric kettle and sink. Huge BBQ on balcony for cooking. Good insect protection with tent screens. Portable fan made for a pleasant time lying on the bed reading in the heat if the day.

Western beach at sunset is just magic - a photographer's delight with the late afternoon sun highlighting the red cliffs. The flight over Buccaneer Archipeligo was reasonably priced and well worth it.
Lombadina has great bread from wood fired oven Mon, Wed, Fri and well stocked supermarket open Mon-Fri in One Arm Point

“Tranquillity”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2011

The Kooljaman resort is at the end of the earth, or at least it feels that way after the two and a half hour drive from Broome across bone shaking, teeth rattling dry sandy dirt tracks.. but that's what I wanted to do....wasn't it?

The safari tent in which we stayed was adequately sized for a couple, as well as the main bed, two singles were within the same tented enclosure. On the same platform but outside of the tent was the kitchen and bathroom consisting of a sink, fridge, utensil cupboard and in a side room shower and toilet and wash basin.

We had great views from the tent and easy access to the beaches, restaurant and shop. A reminder, you're in the bush so any food crumbs etc. will be covered with ants at the first opportunity, so tidy up. On the plus side, several tree frogs will turn up at night in the kitchen area to eat the ants, so these may need gentle persuasion to move out of the way before you wash up or put the kettle on.

All the Safari tents are adequately spaced and angled as such that you can't directly overlook another tent. There's a quiet time after 9pm, but we found there was no human sounds beyond 7pm. I can't comment what it was like at the camp ground. I suppose if you can't sleep to the noise of the surf crashing on shore or the sound of cicada beetles, then bring earplugs or this isn't the place for you.

I didn't get mobile phone reception here at any point, but there were several people in the restaurant area, talking on a mobile phone loudly, but hey, I'm just a tourist and get the roaming operator my service provider teams up with.

There is a wireless hotspot at reception and 30 minute or one hour slots can be purchased from the shop, although a bit expensive. In the city, you'd get 24 hours for the same price as one hour here.

The beaches, both east and west are gorgeous, very long and there's enough space to claim as your own for the day. I did manage to see a glimpse of a whale blowing and then the arch of it's back as it went under, but was accused of imagining it.

The restaurant had good quality food, with complements to chef for the evening meal. The meal on the second night was delivered to the tent so that we could cook it on the BBQ located on the deck.

Overall, a very enjoyable and relaxing stay. Two nights just doesn't seem long enough, so next time it will have to be longer.
