“Good location and nice big room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We didn't expect too much from our two bedroom apartment, but were pleased when we arrived.
Pros:Check-in was easy and the living room of the apartment was quite spacious. There was an L-shaped kitchen with room for a 6 seat dining table and then an open plan lounge with couch and armchair and little balcony. The bedrooms were small, but not too small and we were able to fit the baby's cot into the main bedroom and still use the wardrobe and door.
There is a carpark in the building too so you can park there for a very reasonable amount.
Cons: The apartment was in the building next door so we had to go in and out of the buildings to get to reception. Not hateful, but would have been worse if it was raining. The parking is TIGHT so be careful if you have anything bigger than a hatchback. No ensuite in the main bedroom. No facilities for kids so you'll need to bring everything (apart from bedding).

“Good value, great location”

We stayed there as part of a group, occupying 3 separate apartments. I found the apartments to be clean, nicely laid out with a sufficient kitchen, stocked with everything you need. Yes, there were renovations going on and it would have been nice to have been told about them before we arrived. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Great location: Trams and buses outside the door, 7-minute walk to a shopping centre with large supermarket, liquor store and pharmacy and a 10-minute walk to Southbank DFO. The only negative for me was the traffic noise at night-time. Would stay there again.

“Melbourne's Little Gem”

This property would have to be a favourite of mine. Clean, well services apartments that are comfortably appointed.
Only concern was our ability to drive up the carpark.

“Very Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2011

After my recent experience in Plum Apartments - Southbank, I have no intentions to ever stay in a Plum apartment. On the internet you self rank yourselves 4 star accommodation but I would suggest you reasses this to maybe a 2-3 star.

We recently stayed in room 11.1 between 3-5th Dec and were very disappointed with the experience, at the time of me booking I was never advised that the building was being renovated and in fact the gentleman in reservations referred to the photos on the web page as a good example of the rooms and their configuration.

On arriving at the Southbank apartments the reception looked more like a half completed building project, the staff were quite friendly and helpful and processed our booking. Reaching the 11th floor we exited out into the foyer which was quite dark and the new carpet was littered with bits & pieces from I assume the surrounding renovations.

Entering our room the first things we noticed was what seemed to be patchy paint work on walls & ceilings, broken and frayed blinds, a slightly soiled sofa, dirty sliding doors covered in smudges and hand prints, a filthy balcony which has a red feature wall which is so dirty that I accidentally leaned on it and dirtied my clothes, the bathroom shower was missing a shower door and the remaining screen was covered in soap scum and the laundrette door was also broken.

I called reception and expressed my disappointment, highlighting the above to him, the gentleman was quite nice and explained that unfortunately they were totally booked and was unable to find me another room, but suggested I complete a feedback form.

So based on my most recent experience I will never select the Plum Apartment group for future accommodation needs

“Convenient for groups”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

We chose these apartments because they are one of the few in Melbourne that offer flexible accommodation for groups - they will split the beds in both bedrooms. Also, the two bedroom apartments have 2 bathrooms which is convenient when travelling with 4 adults. While we were there, they were undertaking a renovation of reception and all the foyer areas so the place was not looking its best. It will probably be looking better now.

The apartment itself was ok. Most things were available in the kitchen. We had a view of the Casino and city. Everything looked a little tired and overall the apartment could have been cleaner (eg there was mold in the bathroom and air vents were covered in dust).

The apartments don't get much servicing which is a bit of a pain when you are staying for a number of days.

For me the main reason I wouldn't stay here again is the position. There is nothing much nearby and to get to any restaurants or shops it is quite a walk around the Casino. City Road is not an attractive spot. Sure there are some nice spots near by, but it seems an effort to get to any of them.

For the quality of the accommodation I think the price was a bit steep. Parking costs $12 a day and the car park is a bit of a nightmare - very tight ramps and car parks.
