“1st visit fantastic, 2nd one not so great-don't have late dinner seating”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

1st visit with kids (I know, what were we thinking?) was brilliant. After discussion with the friendly & accommodating staff we arranged for 4 adults & 2 kids to have the degustation menu & other 2 kids had choices off the main menu. They matched the timing of all meals perfectly, & all meals were magnificent!
2nd time around our booking was for 9.30pm but we weren't seated until almost 11pm! We were sent upstairs for drinks at Adelphi's bar - firstly at our expense, then offered free drink which didn't come as bar staff told us our table was ready, which it wasn't. Restaurant staff were apologetic & supplied us with a bottle (or 2?) of French champagne to drink while waiting in their seating area, but by the time we got to our table our decision-making abilities were impaired & we chose to have the degustation menu. We finished dinner at 1am & couldn't remember anything about the last couple of courses! Staff were lovely & never made us feel like we should hurry up, but if they had hurried up the earlier diners who didn't leave in time for our booking, we would have been happier.
We will go back again I'm sure, but not for the late sitting.

The food was beautiful and the service was exceptional at Ezard. Serving sizes are very generous with fresh ingredients. There is a wide selection of beautiful vegetarian food.

Service was excellent in a quality yet understated way. Great resteraunt will be going back!

“Delicious lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

The two of us chose the lunch special of three courses and a glass of wine. At $55 it is great value, as each dish is from the starters list on the a la carte menu and cost between $25 and $29. The bread, oil and "dips" are very good. We started with the vodka and citrus cured salmon, beetroot crisp, finger lime, wasabi aioli and shiso cress which sounds as if a lot is going on, but it is a picture and everything is gloriously fresh. The steamed blue swimmer crab dumplings with yarra valley salmon roe, celery cress and tom kha was a stunning dish. We finished with the legendary mini open wagyu beef burger, toasted brioche, quail egg, onion jam, gruyere cheese and pork crisp which was every bit as good as I remembered it. It was a delicious lunch.

“If you can find it, it's very good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

Walked past the place twice, not thinking to lok to the basement of what seemed to be a pretty dead hotel. Still, once inside the atmosphere was very much alive.
Food can best be described as Asian Fusion. Coming from Hong Kong we are normally disappointed with these menus, but Ezard delivered. Fresh ingredients with a nice balance of flavours. If I have any criticism it is that tables are far to close to each other. I have no desire to eavesdrop the neighbours, but it's impossible not to, which restricts your own conversations knowing you are being overheard.
