I booked this with about three days notice to stay over the new year period. Instead of trusting the booking engines, I called Birches directly. Nothing was too much trouble and they had a room available at a good price.
Location: Conveniently located off Hoddle St, and close to pretty much everything you need.
Amenities: I don't know what it is about this place, but it looks like a 60's apartment block with a pretty good renevation. The interiors are quirky, varied in colour and well appointed. The bathroom had a big shower recess and boiling hot water. Courtyard to relax in, but I didn't use it.
Bed: A little on the firm side, but the pillows gave me a really good nights sleep, although the alcohol consumed on new years eve probably helped.
Hygiene: Having had some horror experiences with hygiene in hotels, I was pleasantly surprised to see a spotless (and I mean spotless) bathroom that smelt like bleach and sunshine fresh. No mystery stains on the floors, bedding or ceiling.
Verdict: I'd probably stay there again if I was in a rush. They are a little on the pricey side for what they are, but worth it as well.
