A recent make-over on these rooms, makes them quite pleasant, on the surface, but a bit cheaply done. Splurging on an extra lcd tv in the bedroom would've saved us moving the furniture around, for when we wanted to lie in and watch morning tv. Kitchenette has all the basics. The aircon was dodgy, so fans were supplied. That in itself is fine, except that they didnot tell us that before we went up to the room. Thankfully, being from a warm climate, we weren't bothered, still full disclosure before going to the room would've been appreciated. Staff were friendly and obliging with early check in and maps and directions for basic sight-seeing and getting around. The location, although stuck in a little one way alley, full of construction, is right behind Myers and the mall (for all you shoppers). The only real downers of this moderately priced cbd hotel is.....1. driving there, parking and unloading your luggage out the front would be a nightmare. 2. Dragging your suitcases up the few very large colonial entrace steps is a pain, therefore, 3. Doesn't seem very wheelchair friendly.Overall reasonable, clean, freindly, good price, good location. Would i stay there again? Hmm, probably stay round the corner at the Sommerset on Elisabeth st (same basic price, but more room to move , 2 tv's and washer/dryer)

Room Tip: no floors have a decent view

“WORST PLACE TO STAR”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Hello,
I was staying at this hotel first at 302 , first impression the toilet wasn't clean but we got to meet a friend so we left then later on that night it was a crazy night, me n my partner ended up at the hospital because he was in such pain however got home early morning went right to sleep. soon I woke up i was facing at the wall with full of make up and finger prints all over it I felt like staying at back packer place....No! I mean worst than that and under the pillow case got a lot of hair from the past customers and it kinda made me sick. so i went down and takled to one of the lovely helpful lady and she was going to move me to 303 hope for better but soon i got back to my hotel room the head of house keeper lady she went bang on the front door. I was wondering how can she get to mine that fast. I shown her where I felt unclean and told her those make up mark can be clean they just dont seen to make any effort so she told me is " NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS ROOM" and all fire up over it and telling me is a old hotel pretty much tell me to put up with it in a very rude way! I've stayed at 7 stars hotel in Dubai and I go to Melbourne and around the world a lot that was the worst i've stayed EVER. the same price I can stay at darling tower on collin or city edge they are way better than yours and I don't have to put up with cocky cleaner. I thought i just point it out but at the end I got a much cleaner room and stayed the rest as my partner doesn't like to move around specially while he was in such pain! I just hope your company get better and one day I'll come back to stay with you.

Room Tip: if you stay there..make sure the room is up your standard..if not tell them to change your room for...

Dear Yvonne

Thank you for taking the time to pass on your feedback.

We note your comments regarding the housekeeping issue’s of your room and do apologize for any inconvenience caused during your stay.
Due to the high standards required of our contract cleaning company, we have immediately forwarded your comments to the management of the company
and have organised a meeting with staff concerned.
As I understand it, the staff went out of their way to make you feel comfortable.

Once again– I do apologize for an unhappy start of you stay – I trust it improved, once you room-moved to room 509.

Yours sincerely

“Good location”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

I booked the hotel based on its location which is great, 1 min walk and you're in the middle of the main shopping areas. Although the website says there is some construction going on next door what it should say is there is a massive hole in the ground next door. The site starts about 6am every day but Sunday and anyone interested in sleeping past this time should go elsewhere. Its incredibly noicy and spending anytime in the hotel room from about 6am to 6pm is a pain. I know that staying in any city can be quite noicy but when the construction crew start using the angle grinder just outside your window at 6.30am and you cant even hear the tv then thats a bit too much. As for the rooms they're in need of a refurbishment but i've seen worse. Would i stay here again? Not for a couple of years until the building next door has been finished.

Room Tip: If anything, insist on a room not facing the building site or dont even bother

Dear Guest
Thank you for sending us your feed back - as soon as I read this I did forward it to the building contractors - next door. By councuil regulations they are not allowed to start working on the building site before 8.00 am. Unfortunately no guests advised us on the day about this - because I would have taken action and contacted the contractors immediately.
I am sorry that it spoiled you stay at our Hotel - and I do apologize for any inconveniences.
Rest assured that we do our best to get it right

Yours sincerely,

“Great location”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

Booked an apartment on wotif, 5th floor, small, clean but in dire need of refurbishment. Handle fell of bedroom window opener, very old analogue tv with a remote that did not work properly, badly marked walls and stained carpet. No spare blankets or pillows and only a thin blanket on the main bed. It was the coldest january day in melb for 3 years. Thought the idea of booking last minute on a discount site was to increase low occupancy ... not to unload an inferior product. This hotel is in a great location ... there is a massive construction site next door that was fortunately inactive during the xmas holiday period. Small sep windowless room with a single bed and no remote for the ac to even circuate some air. Parking overnight is $22 when ticket is stamped at reception. The parking station is at least a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel. Very glad we only booked one night.

Room Tip: There may be other apartments that have been refurbished as Breakfree usually have different owners...

Dear Guest
Thank you for taking the time to post your review on our Hotel and to give us the opportunity to rectify where necessary. We agree that the hotel is in need of a refurbishment - and this will be done as soon as the construction works next to us are finished. In the meantime we do our best to keep the hotel as clean and comfortable as possible. Extra linen - blankets etc are always available on request - even after hours as we do have a caretaker on site during the night.
The car-park is actually located 300 meters from our Hotel in Little Bourke street and would not take more than 5 min to get there.
We are sorry your stay was an unhappy - one, rest assured that we do all we can to get it right.
Your sincerely
