Our room (supposedly a one bedroom apartment) definitely did not have any flat screen TV- was an old box set with a dodgy coax fitting so all we could watch was fox sport or news. Not fixed during 3 day stay despite complaints every morning. That not the worst though - the disinterested staff start at reception (Chinese students more interested in studies than customer care) and finish with totally incompetent cleaners!! Our bathroom and toilet was untouched except for folding toilet roll into triangle edge each day and replacing towels on third! Mould everywhere in bathroom including on floor ehich looked like it hadnt been washed anytime this century. The bed was made (loosely speaking) with the sheets straightened and doona folded on bortom. Kitchen no better - and mugs/glasses not washed - fully serviced - what a joke !!! Agree with other reviewer who said stay next door - City Edge apartments about same vintage and price but heaps more professional staff!

I booked a room in East Melbourne as I had to come into the city for a conference the following day. I had thought I could walk to the conference venue and leave my car at the hotel. The place was difficult to find as the numbers are not well displayed. The ad mentioned secure off street parking. What a joke! Cars were packed in so tightly that it was impossible to park without denting your car. I had to squeeze past the line of cars in the lane by folding in my side mirror! No way I was going to risk damage to my car by staying there. I wasted $150 as my fee was non-refundable. The place was rundown and outside smelled of beer. The receptionist barely spoke English. What a dive! I never even got to the room.

I know this is budget accommodation for the area but I think the saying "you get what you pay for" doesn't even begin to cover it with this one.
There was mould on the main window frames in the open plan living/kitchenette, in the grout on the tiles and the wall & ceiling above the bath/shower.
It is not well kept the paint is pealing off the walls & ceiling and the entrance foyer has a very stale odor also.
We went back to the reception 3 times, once to check in and be told our room was not ready (at 4pm), once to collect our keys and the other to tell them we wnted to cancel the additional nights we had booked and the male in the reception didn't remember the 2nd times even though they were in the space of 10-15 minutes.
Also in the bathroom there is a set of plastic shelves which is covered in other peoples hair.
The flap to the smoke alarm was open and no battery in it.
This place is a great OH&S risk.

We enjoyed our stay at Eastern Townhouses. Close to city , Budget price and great Location. Rooms were very clean & tidy. Good hot Water and Excellent heating. Would recommend to family and friends
Close to Fitzroy precinct. Tram stop 100 metres away.
