“Good value at a good location”

We were on a budget, and needed a twin room. Having the possibility of self-catering, and a continental breakfast included was great for us. The beds were comfortable, and the service staff very helpful, though the maids had little English.
The building has a lift and a small lounge with newspapers on the ground floor.
We were close to everything and enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: The rooms would be accessible, but the showers were over the bath.

“Great for budget-conscious business travellers.”

These serviced apartments have been a great find - I have stayed here a couple of times now on business, and it's been just fantastic.

The apartments are located on Little Bourke Street, perfectly located between the state government offices on Lonsdale St and the trams running along Bourke St, to offer easy access to Southern Cross Station, Southbank and Docklands.

I've stayed in the studio apartment, which has a small kitchen with a microwave, kettle, toaster and hot plate. A continental for the next morning was in the fridge when I arrived. There is a bench large enough to spread all of my work things out, and a small fee for connecting to the internet. There are only a small number of rooms in the establishment, with reception open 24 hours, and the staff are very helpful.

While the building lacks some amenities - there is no gym, pool, bar or restaurant - the rooms make up for it. The hotel is at the top edge of Chinatown, so there's lots of dining options around. I don't have a large budget for travel, and City Limits is a great way of getting an apartment for the price of a hotel room. I'd highly recommend it for business travellers.

Room Tip: Rooms facing Little Bourke St can get a little noisy at closing time.

“Close to Parliament and Chinatown”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

We stayed here five nights. Our room was basic, small, very clean. Not a room to lounge about -- a single chair, but you had to sit on the bed to watch TV. Great bed, crisp linens, standard towels. Breakfast bar with two stools. Had small frig, microwave, electric kettle, toaster, two burner cooktop in the cabinet which we didn't use, minimal utensils, and dishes for two. Bad art, but that's a matter of taste! Slow elevator.

Breakfast is delivered to your refrigerator -- bread, milk, cold cereal, juice, butter, jam, tea and coffee -- but not in great supply!

The location is great -- walkable to Parliament, Chinatown, the Bourke Street Mall, theaters, etc. And if you need to go further afield, the Parliament train station is half a block away! Some street noise, but mostly early morning garbage trucks, and not that distracting.

The front desk staff was wonderful -- friendly, helpful with directions and suggestions. House keeping service varied. One day they washed dishes and one day they didn't -- not a deal breaker!

Internet service is available for a fee. Parking is available for a fee. Guest laundry is available. We didn't use any.

BIGGEST NEGATIVE about the place is the surcharge for using your credit card. It's not advertised but just shows up on your bill. And it completely negates the great price you thought you were getting when you did your online comparison searching.

Again, it's good, basic and clean accommodations with a good location. Just not a wow-er!

“Value for money and nice location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2011

We stayed here for a week. We requested a quiet room and we got a quiet room on the top floor. The City Limits is located right near the Parliament Train Station and being on Little Bourke Street is only a street away from the Bourke Street tram lines so travel anywhere was a breeze. Being in Chinatown meant there were restaurants everywhere to suit any budget, and not just Asian cuisine.

The room we had was clean, well maintained and pleasant enough with nice oblique city views, we didn't expect exciting decor so were not disappointed with its simplistic style. Although I did get rather attached to a painting of a zebra with it's reflection in wet sand that I'd probably rate as one of the more interesting pieces of hotel art I've seen on walls.

The kitchenette comprised of a refrigerator, sink, microwave, jug, toaster, double hotplate (in cupboard), frying pan, sauce pan, some other basic cooking utensils, and minimal crockery, glasses etc. It also had a breakfast bar rather than a table. There were laundry facilities downstairs that comprised of a washing machine and 2 dryers, with hours approx. between 8am-8pm. We were pretty busy and never in during those times so didn't use them. But they did have a laundry service.

Breakfast was delivered to the fridge each day, it comprised of: 2 slices of bread each (1 white, 1 wholegrain), 2 jams each, 1 butter each, 1 pottle of orange juice each, and milk. There was also 2 single serve boxes of cereal (Special K & Nutrigrain). We don't know if the cereal types changed each day because we didn't feel compelled to eat them. We went and bought eggs and had french toast for breakfast most days.

The beds were comfortable, they had heavy duvets which didn't work the best for warm weather, but easy enough to strip off. The aircon was fairly quiet, which was nice. There wasn't really a sitting room layout in our studio, but since we were busy out most of the time we didn't really need it, and the TV was perfectly watchable from the bed.

The front desk was manned 24hrs and the staff there were helpful anytime asked for assistance. Security was via an electronic toggle at the front door and electronic keys for personal rooms, which meant no-one was coming into the building without key access.

Overall, we were pleased with our stay here as it met our needs comfortably. I thought this was excellent value for money because we weren't buying into more than we needed without sacrificing cleanliness, pleasantness, location, and security. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

“Good location mediocre accommodation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

I really struggled to get a hotel for a reasonable price in Melbourne so after seeing the reviews on this site I decided to stay here for a weekend visit. The hotel (having a separate sink and a toaster and a kettle does not make it an apartment) is in a great location and is off the main roads so pretty quiet, although there is a bar across the road if you wanted to try to sleep early.

It is clean and tidy but is quite dated and very basic, the bathroom in particular. Not a room you could really lounge around in. A bonus is that it does have air-con.

The continental breakfast consisted of a small carton of juice, a mini cereal box, two slices of bread, one spread portion, one vegemite portion and two jam portions. Also beware of leaving anything in the fridge thinking you can have it later, anything uneaten is replaced with the same meagre portions for the next day.

If you come here expecting comfortable basic accommodation you won't be disappointed.
