Booked in for 4 nights, left after 1. Good location, great price but that's where the positives end. Bad facilites, noisy and the worst door staff i have ever come across in my time travelling. Rude, pushy and would not give me directions, told me to buy a [--] map.

we stayed at exford for 1 night (thank goodness, it was just 1 night..) and were woken up so many times at night by noises from the corridor and the rooms next door.
the hotel is old, musty and furniture creaky...
terrible place to stay in...

Disorganised booking through VIP backpackers, exhaustive climb to rooms on the top floor, views of the chinese restaurant kitchens (?) across the road and only 4 shared toilets/showers on each floor.
Added to which there was the smell of stale backpacker body odour in the corridors and some females with bad personal hygiene, it was not a great stay.
The location is ok, right in the heart of Chinatown, and the bar downstairs offering discounted beers to residents and included cereals/toast each morning is fine. If you have no expectations then book this place.
All ablutions can be done in the very modern and pristine bathrooms of the nearby QV centre!!

the exford was my first port of call in melbourne, really nice and helpful staff that have a sense of humour too, got great laugh out of them, also very helpful with telling us about places to go and see, the bouncer even arranged for his friends to take us out one night to show us around, decent rooms, showers and toilets, bit dark but cleaned every day, common room cosy but found it was hard getting people to interact with one another...maybe just the timing, totally recommend it...one word of warning, there's no lift, your leg muscles get a great workout!!!
