“Dirty!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

Despite its great location, good concierge and nice fitness room, I will not stay in this hotel again because of cleanliness. Of all things, cleanliness is what I care the most when staying in a hotel. Reading through past reviews I hoped that some of the previous concerns had indeed been addressed by the management, gauging from the management prompt responses posted on the trip advisor web site (i.e. Mark from Perth, July 23 2011, Fly Kiwi from New Zealand, May 31 2011, Ausoiler from Melbourne, Feb 28 2011, PTJane from East Fremantle, Feb 27 2011…). However, to our dismay, upon checking in we entered a room that looked barely cleaned, with black stains on chairs, suboptimal bathroom, moldy shower. See pictures attached. We reported these to the help desk the same afternoon before heading off to a night in the city, and were promised that the chairs be replaced and the room cleaned. This didn’t happen, as it never happened upon our repeated reports—until it became clear to us that it was futile. The answer was always nice and prompt but not followed by action. I suspect this is also how the answers to concerns posted on this website are being issued: automatically, with no action to follow. Why bother?? It’s a real pity—will not stay in this hotel despite its good location. You lost a customer, a frequent visitor to Melbourne.

“Pleasantly surprised...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

Located within a true stroll to buses, trams, trains and a multitude of restaurants, shops, and other city interests, this hotel doesn't boast a grand or ostentatious lobby but instead has functional areas that are coupled with friendly helpful staff.

Just outside the front door is a taxi stand, beyond which is the Flinders Street Main Train Station for trains going to the outer areas of Melbourne City. About 70m is a tram stand that hosts both full paying trams as well as the free inner city Circle Route Tram Services.

My wife and I stayed there for three nights and four days to attend a convention at Melbourne Convention Centre and it was a mere 15 mins slow walk to the venue, passing the Crown Casino Complex, along the riverfront walkways. The access to all the city attractions and interests are also within healthy walking distance.

Thanks to the kind and helpful staff, they accommodated an early check in and a midday checkout, which helped heaps. Also to note if it helps readers: this hotel is serviced by SkyBus Hotel Dropoff Service which services transfers from Tullamarine and Melbourne CBD.

Internet is available, but is payable in the rooms, while 'free' Wifi is only available in the lobby lounge area at a contradictory cost of a beverage. Strange but I guess they can't be perfect.

Other than that, a comfortable, clean, and trouble-free stay in the inner city of Melbourne at reasonable rates that provides excellent locational conveniences!

“great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

Booked this hotel for 3 nights, thur-sun to visit freinds. Clean and tidy, very large room. Great location- across the road is flinders st station and you just walk through it to get to the bridge over to southbank. Heaps of places to eat and drink nearby- really central. Only problem was there was no valet parking so we had to park our car in a parking garage up the road for $20 a day- and it was a bit tricky carrying all our luggage up and back. It was really quiet except for Saturday night- there must be a nightclub nearby and when i got to bed at 3am i could still hear the music.it might depend on what side of the hotel you are on though. This is good value for money-staff were friendly and the reception is open 24 hours.

Thank you for your recent review we very much appreciate your comments and feedback. We were delighted to hear you had a comfortable stay with us. I am sure that this feedback will serve as an encouragement to all of our staff as we strive to continuously improve the quality of our services.

We apologise that you were not informed or offered our concierge service in regards to your luggage. We agree the parking despite being located on the next block can be a difficult walk with bags so we inturn suggest that our guests park at the front of the building and we unload and deliver all luggage to your room prior to parking the vehicle. We will ensure that our Associates are reminded of this oversight to ensure it does not reoccur. We are investigating your reference to the late night music as we have not previously encounter this, perhaps it was a once of function or event.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience, we look forward to welcoming you back when you next stay in Melbourne.

“Everything's great!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2011

I got off a long flight and arrived the hotel at 10am. I am very happy to know that the room is ready for check in. Room is small but cozy. Bathroom has a tub and the hotel provided the basic items like shampoos/soap but do note that there is no shower cap, toothbrush etc.

Room also has a idock (play music but unable to charge my iphone 3GS), safe, iron, iron board, mini fridge etc.

Everything is good and i enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The staff especially are very kind and helpful. There is this hotel staff by the name of JC, who is always so ready to help.

Free Wifi in the lobby and nice restaurants in the lane beside the hotel. Great location.
Will be back for sure!

“Fantastic Location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2011

I always stay here for location, the king room with city views with excellent rates & for the warm & welcoming greeting at Reception I receive.

This time I did notice a slight drop in thorough cleaning in the bathroom & tea bags were not replaced. Maybe there has been a cut back in staff? ( Mind you, I'd rather not be the person who has to clean guests rooms!)

I'd still stay here on future visits to Melbourne.

Room Tip: Rooms high up with City Views are light, not noisy & have the advantage of Views of Yarra River...
