My husband and I stayed here from August 2nd - 5th. It has a great location... close to the river and downtown and a quick walk to the train station. The price is reasonable as well if you are looking for a no frills place that gets the job done (i.e a place to sleep and a hot shower). They do have a microwave, fridge and kettle in each room. Overall the staff was friendly.
We really liked this hotel - it was perfect for a four night break during which we explored Melbourne. Situated close to Federation Square, where all good sightseeing options begin, we loved walking along the Yarra and taking in the city views. The hotel is next door to the Eureka Tower, offering fantastic views, but we gave 'The Edge' a miss! The hotel is clean and well maintained and the staff were extremely helpful. All of our requests were met (quiet room, non-smoking, away from the lifts/stairwells etc). Although there is no restaurant, we were able to call a restaurant (advertised in the room) which was happy to deliver on the night we arrived. Its an Au$ 8 taxi ride from Southern Cross Station. We would definitely stay here again.
My daughter and I stayed here for two nights.
The good things: location, friendly staff, quiet and clean room, small kitchenette.
The not-so-good things: strong bleach-like smell when we arrived which eased off during our stay, and our room needed better heating as we were cold overnight.
Overall, we felt that this hotel was good value, especially if you pay 3 weeks in advance.
I have stayed at this hotel a few times both with my wife when in Melbourne for sporting events and also by myself when staying in Melbourne for work. The location is great, walking distance to the CBD, the casino, and the MCG. I have always found the staff to be helpful and friendly and never had problems with the rooms.
It is certainly not 5 stars, but is comfortable enough plus is quite cheap. I would definately recommend this for the more budget conscious traveller.
