“For the location only”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2010

We stayed 3 nights at the Travelodge while on vacation in Melbourne. We had a Twin bed room, very basic, and cleaned when you arrived. However the following days the rubbish were not taken out, and the carpet not cleaned. They only provide a couple of towels, and there is no toaster in the "so called" service apartment".

The internet connection didnt work well. It was always re-directing to the freaking home page every minute or so making the browsing difficult. They charge a 5 stars hotel rate for the Internet, I expect a 5 stars service.

The only great thing is the location. But there is plenty of hotels close by, so I will definitely try something else the next time. Staff was ok and polite.

I will not stay there again. For the price I paid, I can get better than this.

This hotel is in a good location and convenient to most places in and around the CBD. For those who don't like walking, Melbourne has a great free tourist bus and tram with stops nearby, pick up the brochure from the foyer of the hotel.
The staff were excellent and checked us in early and checked us out efficiently and stored our baggage. I requested specific bedding and this was accomodated, but make sure you call to confirm any special request. They even handled our e-checkin with the airline before leaving as they said that this was a bit hit and miss with the pay internet service in the foyer.
We were on the fourth floor and had no issues with noise.
You can get a good rate and avoid the credit card surcharge if you are prepared to pay in advance and book on the hotel website, they call it 'Advance Purchase 21'.

“Great Location, just make sure you close the curtains!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2010

Great Location, just make sure you close the curtains because you have a 'city' view aka the building across the road. And when you can see the people across the road through your net curtains and they wave to you, you suddenly realise that they can see you! Now I am thinking that I am wrong when I assumed hotels in the city had tinted or mirrored windows, but I have learnt my lesson now!!!!

Close to the casino and great restaurants, this is a good place to base yourself for a weekend in melbourne.

Pay with cash and you avoid the cheeky fees.

“Nice, Clean and Central”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2010

I stayed at this property for a long weekend on a trip to watch sport. The service on arrival was fast and friendly and the room were spacious clean and comfortable. The hotel is close to city centre and Flinders St Railway station and also close to the Crown Entertainment Area.
There is no restaurant as such at the hotel although they do breakfast, but a few local restaurants deliver to your room.
I found the hotel to be is a great spot and will stay there again.

“Perfect location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2010

The room was spacious, the view was pleasant, the location was very handy to Federation Square and public transport and the centre of the city. Travelodge Southbank is directly in line with the footbridge over the Yarra River which runs from behind Flinders Station to the Southbank. The area is always well-lit and lively at night and as soon as you get across the bridge, the hotel can been seen in front of you. A very pleasant and lively location at night just for wandering, enjoying the city lights and an icecream. The room was very clean and someone tidies and makes the bed every day. The heatpump/cooler was annoying but most hotels have these now. There was always someone on reception and they were very friendly and helpful, the only complaint I have is that they forgot to give me a wakeup call when I was leaving for the airport at 3.45am - luckily I set my own alarm. There is also a 24hr taxi rank outside the door and it cost $9 to get to the Southern Cross Station for the skybus. I would stay here again, it was even slightly cheaper than the small noisy apartment room I had on the other side of town for the first night.
