“If Only Anyone Cared!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

Awful - Tiny rooms, Staff who couldn't care less, and worse still - non- existent management who clearly care less still. We had one small problem after the next which anywhere else could have been dealt with swiftly. When these issues mounted and we asked to speak to a manager, we were advised they didn't have managers on duty over weekends! Nothing could be resolved and this establishment has the audacity to call itself 4 Star! It makes me very suspiscious of our rating system.

I was advised by front office staff to leave written feedback which I did. As part of that, I requested the manager phone me to discuss my concerns. That was 6 weeks ago and I have not heard anything yet.

We left an iphone charger in our room and called an hour after check out to be told it would be sent out to our home address which happens to be only about 10 kilometres away. They said they'd send it out but it would have to be COD. It was sent to the wrong address and we were expected to pay $18 when it could have been delivered in the normal post at minimal cost for less than $1 - to the right address. Still we have not received our charger. It seems business for this 4 Star is extremely. Exasperting!

Honestly, if you do not like to be treated like cattle, keep away from this place. Apart from a good location, there is absolutely nothing going for it....Tiny rooms, shabby presentation, mildew smells in bathroom and corridors and to really add insult, king size bed which was actually 2 beds put together and very uncomfortable, uninformed staff who don't seem to like their work and invisible management who clearly consider guest comfort and service a very low priority.

Don't throw your money away - there are plenty of far better choices in the city and no-one should accept service lacking to the extent that this place provides. Just awful!

It's a shame that this establishment has been let go as it has the makings of a lovely boutique hotel if only anyone cared.

“Unbeatable Location and Friendly Staff”

I stayed at the Hotel Causeway with my sister for a three night shopping spree. The hotel is located in the centre of the CBD and is a short walk to Federation Square and many fantastic restaurants.

Our twin room was much smaller than the room on our previous visit but the beds were comfortable and as the hotel wasn't busy it was blissfully quiet. The room also wasn't as clean as the one on our first visit as there was mould and dust in the bathroom and black marks on the walls and doors. Continental breakfast was included as part of our package and the juice, cereal, fruit, yoghurt and toast was more than enough to start the day. All the staff we encountered were warm and friendly so the Hotel Causeway will remain our preferred hotel when visiting Melbourne.

“Location +++, value for money.”

Five stars for location and value for money! Everything else was very good: clean, helpful staff, good size room with usual amenities (nice chocs!), 24hour reception which I needed as I was checking in late after meeting friends. Have to agree with previous reviewer Rob T - not the flashest, largest, newest, but will be my choice next trip to Melbourne.

“We love the position”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2011

It's not the flashest, largest, newest or cheapest. But when we visit Melbourne especially if we know in advance that we will be going, we check to see if there are any Hotel Causeway for specials. If you book straight of their web site you will pay for a premium, through other sites you will often find specials. When my wife an I go to Melbourne it's usually a shopping and show adventure, and after a few hours of getting dragged around the shops I've had enough. And if feel like going back to the hotel, I know my wife will go straight to DJ's, right opposite, straight across Little Collins St. It does have position, we find it quiet, and they usually offer breakfast, which we normally don't use as we like the cafes, but if you want to have breakfast it's there.

get the specials.
great position.
great staff.
great little hotel.

We always return especially if there are specials.

Worth a look.

Room Tip: Quiet, comfy beds and clean.

“Not 4 star, not at all”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2011

Hotel Causeway is advertised as a 4 star "sophisticated and comtemporary" hotel. It is not. The room is large, but on the shabby side and the bathroom was mouldy. The room we were allocated was on Level 2, right near the restaurant where breakfast is served. We were woken at 6am with the sounds of the staff setting up for service - phones ringing, staff shouting, cutlery clanging etc.

We asked to move rooms, which was initially refused, but the receptionist was able to accommodate. We were moved up to Level 4, right near the elevator. Which groaned loudly every few minutes. All. Night.

A very disappointing outcome to what should have been a celebratory weekend stay in Melbourne.

Room Tip: Ensure you are far away from the elevator and restaurant
