“Great location and spacious room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Booked the Sebel Melbourne for 2 nights on a work trip. I arrived and checked in after work, and was appointed a room on another wing (the one at the back - room 403 - i think). I was happy with the decor, it was modern and clean and big for just one person. What I didn't like about the suite was the outside noise coming from the exhaust fan from the building across the alley. I'm a light sleeper - and the noise sounded like you're in a plane...I called the reception and asked to be moved, which they did, to a smaller -ish room on the top floor which was smaller but much quieter.

My booking came with breakfast, didn't get to sample all of it however I can say that the sausages was tasty!

I've travelled to Melbourne several times for work and have stayed in different hotels all the time; however I'd probably book the Sebel again, its convenient, and the bed was comfy.

When booking ask for a higher floor if your a light sleeper.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

We had stayed at the Sebel a couple of times and had found it to be of above-average standard.

However, our stay in December , 2011 was very disappointing. Firstly, we had to change rooms because the bed was so lumpy I couldn't get a good night's sleep. They happily changed rooms but the housekeeping that week was terrible! The bath and basin still had hair and soap marks in it even after the daily clean. The toilet was not cleaned properly. Bed was not made, the bed cover was simply thrown over each day. Bathroom supplies were not stocked up each day.

Service at the Reception wasn't particularly welcoming in our week's stay there either. Reception staff simply ignore you as you head up to the room. EXCEPT for Gordon the concierge who is simply delightful and was the saving grace of our stay. He is such a joy!

On New Year's Eve, the Reception Manager who was standing outside the hotel simply looked at us and looked away as we entered the foyer. No 'Happy New Year" nor even a smile. Guess he wasn't too pleased with having to work that night!

What a shame the place had gone downhill so quickly.

Dear Frank S,

Firstly thank you for staying at The Sebel Melbourne and for taking the time to post your review on Trip advisor. I am however disappointed to hear that various aspects of your stay with us did not meet your expectations.

I would like to apologise that our Housekeeping was not up to standard with respect to cleanliness, beds not made up properly and bathroom supplies not being stocked up each day. This is certainly not the service The Sebel Melbourne is renown for.

My sincere apologies with respect to a staff member ignoring you as you entered the foyer. I will pass on your feedback to both our Executive Housekeeper and Front Office Manager as to ensure these incidents are rectified immediately.

Thank you very much for your positive feedback regarding Gordon, which I will be sure to share with him and our team. Guest reviews enable us to monitor our standards so I appreciate you taking the time to highlight your concerns.

“We love Gordon the Concierge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We stayed at the Sebel over the Australian Open - great stay, great hotel and did I mention the Concierge Gordon ?? What a find - he was the best concierge I have ever seen. Nothing was too much trouble for him - he answered every question with utmost knowledge of the area and he was sooooo friendly. He offered to help with anything we needed. Customer service is so important and you can have the best rooms in the city but if you have a poor staff member then it all goes out the window - well done to The Sebel on having Gordon - I can see another person who has posted about him as well on this review - he is a stand out and a treasure to your hotel.

“Extremley Enjoyable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

What a find. After searching hotel after hotel, we finally came across the Sebel Melbourne. A fantastic hotel in the central CBD, close to everything. We stayed here for 3 nights on our first family holiday to Melbourne and were not disappointed. We arrived late at night and staff were very friendly and helpful at checkin. We were upgraded to a 1 bedroom suite (Rm 806) which was very spacious and clean and had large opening windows (always good to get some fresh air). On our first night we ordered room service which was prompt and very tasty -even though it was only pizza and chips. Food in the hotel (especially breakfast) is a little on the pricey side.

Next time we come to Melbourne we will definately stay at the Sebel Melbourne in hopefully a Heritage Suite (room 806). Would recommend to anyone you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: If you can afford the one bedroom suite rather than the studio would recommend

“Good quality with a twist”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

This hotel is excellent for business travellers and tourists. It is very central. All rooms have washing machines plus dryers and a microwave.
The room service is average but there are plenty of eateries nearby

Room Tip: Avoid the loft rooms..stairs are too steep
