“Decent Hotel in North Melbourne”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

people found this review helpful

A nice hotel for a few nights in North Melbourne. Clean and tidy rooms, with enough space to keep someone happy. A little bit away from mainstream shops/dining, but ok for a short trip. The breakfast facilities were quite nice, and hotel staff were good. Shame it didn't have a gym on-site, you had to travel a 10 minutes to access the complimentary service.

Thanks for taking time to review us following your stay last week.

I appreciate the positive feedback on the facilities, we have put a lot of effort into upgrading the hotel in the past few months, in particular the foyer and restaurant (new carpet, repainting, new furniture on the way), and the other public areas.

The new breakfast set up is being well received, a la carte breakfast daily is ensuring every meal is fresh, hot and well presented.

I hope we can welcome you back to the hotel again soon.

“Horribly OLD - Hotel in barracks”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

one word: HORRIBLE!

the room was terrible! we were disappointed and shocked upon entering. The window sills were old, dirty and disgusting. The bathroom was old and just plain wrong. The door is chipped and doesn't close properly. The shower area is dirty and makes you not want to shower at all.

The guy at the reception was slow and not helpful.

Be prepared to carry your own luggage to reception from the carpark! No lifts.

OLD OLD OLD!

Thank you for your review.

Since you stayed back in July there have been a lot of refurbishments and updates around the property, with all public areas repainted and refreshed (corridors, foyer restaurant, bar etc), new carpeting throughout the foyer and restaurant (just completed this week) to compliment the corridor carpet which was replaced in February.

Guest rooms are being updated on an ongoing basis; repainting, bathroom/shower area refresh, curtains and blinds updated.

The property is in excellent condition now, and with new furniture arriving for the foyer and lounges in the next week we are looking good.

You can unload your luggage into the reception area from the undercover drive through right at the front door prior to parking. There are also luggage trolleys available if you have additional luggage. If you require assistance with luggage the reception team or any of the admin staff will be more than happy to assist, I have carried more bags than I can count easily, just let us know and we can provide any help required.

“Eureka! A well located, decent city hotel for a reasonable price!”

This hotel looks like it's been recently renovated and feels like it's making an effort to retain guests. Smallish but comfortable room in a low-rise setting, well appointed, private outlook and with good climate control. Nice restaurant - try the chef's 'butter chicken' special (if you like that kind of thing - not too buttery). Sumptuous breakfast, included in low-season room rate of $A164, was an unexpected pleasure. All in all, a big thumbs-up from me.
PS. Don't bother with the airport transfer service (outsourced to StarBus). Arrived a half hour late and not even an apology. Grrrrr.

Thank you for your review.

Great to hear you enjoyed your stay with us, and noticed we are doing a lot of work around the building to keep looking fresh and inviting. There is more on the way with new carpeting in the restaurant/bar/lounge area and conference rooms being laid right now, and new restaurant / foyer furniture expected soon.
We try hard to keep the menu exciting (and delicious!) and update a few times yearly, and aim to provide excellent value for money, glad we hit the mark!

I am disappointed to hear you had trouble with your airport transfer booking. Star bus are usually excellent however I will pass on your feedback. We are fortunate that our location means we are last to pick up on their route to the airport, and first to drop off on the way into town, so you avoid stopping at all the other points along the way - effectively a direct transfer. Of course thats not much comfort if they are late, hopefully that was a one off from them.

Hopefully we can welcome you back soon when all the updates are done (in time for the Tennis!)

“Not the best”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

It was my first stay at this hotel. I attended a course at the hotel and thought it would be convenient to book in at the same place. I chose a room with a spa bath. The room was spacious but tired and dirty. I did not use the bath once during my stay as it had a dirty ring around it that was not mine. I complained about this but the dirty marks were still there on day 4. I will never ever stay here again. This is definitely no a 4 star hotel and housekeeping was lacking. Room was also very noisy.

Thank you for your recent review.
I am sorry you feel your room was not cleaned to a reasonable standard during your stay. I understand housekeepers made a number of additional visits to the room to rectify items you had pointed out, in particular the bath was cleaned 2 or 3 times on the second day. Your comments have been passed on to the executive housekeeper to ensure high standards are maintained throughout the property in the future.

I havent had any other comments relating to that room being noisy in the past, hopefully you enjoyed the complimentary breakfast during your stay to make up for any discomfort.

It is near to hospitals and quite convenient. The reception didn't know what time the tram runs and gave me the wrong information. Colour scheme of the lift is terrible. The bathroom is very small.

Thank you for your review below.
The hotel is certainly well located for the hospitals, and only a couple of minutes out of the CBD. Great for leisure also with the Zoo just round the corner and Queen Victoria Markets very close by.
Apologies if youhad difficulty with trams, the tram stop located in front of the hotel should have a service running every 5-10 minutes into the city, with the last tram leaving the city around 1130 on the weekends. I will make sure our information from Metlink is updated on the front desk.
The elevator interior has been refitted a few months back, along with a lot of other material improvements throughout the property, it certainly is bright!
