I stayed here for business so i wasn't too bothered whether the room was modern or not.
The room was very basic and the bathroom very, very small however the room was serviced daily and the housekeepers always cleaned my room so neatly and gave it a lot of TLC.
The walls were paper thin- I'd hate to be there with friends or have a large family as you could literally hear the conversations through next doors' walls.
Also the drainage was very noisy, so everytime somebody from the room next door or the floor above showered or used the taps, you could hear everything!!
The lift was super slow- upon checking out i had to wait about 20 minutes for a lift and everybody was crammed in like sardines.
Other than that the room was neat, the bed was really comfortable and it had your basic supplies.
Breakfast was nice, and the quality of food was decent.
The staff were always really friendly and helpful and the hotel was in a great location with everything just a stone throw away!!
Tiny little entrance and sleepy reception, slow somewhat creaky elevator, darkish room looking out over one of Melbournes less beautiful alleys. The AC was loud, and the bathroom had seen better days. BUT, the bed was comfy, sheets clean and fresh, location excellent and the price we received over the new year period was unbeatable. For a place to rest your head in Melbourne - and unless you're very picky and are expecting 5 star luxury - you can't go wrong.
Very affordable, right in the middle of Melbourne. Rooms are not terribly ambitious, small bedroom, old-ish furniture, small bed, etc. Functional kitchen. Front desk is often unstaffed, cleaning service for rooms is not every day (I think it is by request only, and may involve an extra fee). Free laundry is a big plus. Slow elevators, parking is difficult - they validate parking two blocks away @ $20/day, with no in/out rights. But a great value overall.
I stayed at this hotel for 6 nights during the Presidents Cup Golf. All Melbourne accommodation during this period was very expensive and I booked this via a WOTIF special and paid approx $140 per night.
I got there at 2pm after I had a call the week before from the hotel confirming my time. However my room wasn't ready and based on activity in the extremely small checkin area that seems to have been the norm!
I left my luggage and went out for about 4 hours and returned to finalise check in. I had room 404 which was a largish one bedroom apartment with kitchen and lounge area as well as a strangely elevated bathroom (strange because the "step up" was about 1.5 times as what you might expect).
Positives about the experience:-
- friendly helpful staff
- comfortable bedding and pillows
- great location only a few minutes walk to flinders street train station
- free wifi included
However some major negatives
- check in as mentioned
- shower tap was broken and would fall off if not careful when using
- room was serviced once on the third day, which is no big deal but it would have been nice if some one told me this
- TV in bedroom did not work at all! And main TV was poor quality in terms of reception
- air con was very noisy
If not for the relative value I would have rated lower but all in all not too bad!
