My family and I checked in to the Pensione Hotel for 7 days and it was worth the money. Check-in was quick and fuss-free.

Rooms were OK in size, for what we paid (we chose a double and triple) however the shower was a little too cramped for our liking. We still managed though, and for the price we paid, I reckon that this was suffice. There was ample space for our luggage, storage and to move around.

There is a lovely cafe on the ground floor where you can have breakfast. I had scrambled eggs on toast (huge portion) for AU$8. The hotel also has a bar and lounge -- nice place for evening drinks.

Good stuff >> There is a laundry room equipped with a washer and dryer machine in the hotel. Cost for washing and drying one load is approx AU$5 -- ask reception for washing powder. If you'd like to use a gym, the hotel provides free passes to Fitness First located down the road -- ask reception for a pass.

Location >> Brilliant! As the hotel was on Spencer Street, it was easy walking distance to anywhere. A tram stop is located around the corner too.

We enjoyed our stay at the Pensione Hotel, and will come back to stay should we ever be in Melbourne again. Big thank you to the staff for making our stay awesome.

We stayed here recently for the Australian Open and were i3 adults in a triple room. The room was excellent and serviced every day. The bathroom was tiny and would be my only criticism, but once again, it was clean and serviced daily. Every morning of the Tennis Open a full list of players on all courts was available and a free tram to the tennis was just around the corner. Location could not have been better. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We will stay there again.

We've stayed here twice now. The rooms are small but they're perfectly functional and for the price, they're great value. The staff have always been very friendly and helpful and the location is ideal for the Skybus and free trams to the F1 at Albert Park and the Australian Open. We've stayed there during busy times but both rooms have been extremely quiet and we haven't heard any street noise or guests in the halls.

We would definitely stay here again. It's nice to find a budget hotel that isn't budget on style and character. Plus, having laundry facilities for guests is ideal. I wish more hotels did this. We travel to Melbourne about once a year and I am sure we will be back again.

On arrival we were upgraded from a twin to a triple. As stated in other comments, the bathroom is tiny and might be a problem for larger people or people with a disability. Watch when turning the tap on in hand basin, easy to get it all over yourself. There was also mould on some of the tiles in the shower and the tiles under the mirror and surrounding the toilet bowl needed a good clean. There is a shower curtain and the set up for this is rather odd. We had no problem with noise from the road, but I could hear people stomping around upstairs. Also when the sliding door closes for the bathroom has a slight gap, not a problem for us, but might be for some people. We only stayed one night. Is very handy to Southern Cross Station and from where the Sky Bus departs, which is why we close to stay here. Also close to free tram stop. We ate in the restaurant downstairs and was very impressed by the friendly service and good food. We didn't eat breakfast here. They also have complimentary newspapers, a nice touch. The only thing for sale was water, one chilled, one not. My son liked the idea that he could swing the tv around, so he could see it better LOL! Had everything we needed and if the bathroom had been cleaner, I would have scored it higher and I have reported this to the Hotel.
