Right in Flinders Lane in the trendy part of Melbourne, the Adelphi offers what used to be very trendily designed rooms, but now becoming a little jaded. Will soon become passee. However it still has some novelty value. Since there is extensive and noisy construction work going on opposite the hotel during the day the hotel is offering discounted prices, so it's good value, given the location. The receptionists and head concierge were VERY helpful, guiding us to some great nearby restaurants (Movida, Press Club) and were always chirpy and bright. Breakfast was good and healthy in a minimalist setting (again good service), but it was drag to have to pay for the wi-fi connection. No hotel worth its salt charges for wi-fi in this day and age.
Also I resented them "pushing" the wine and water provided in the hotel room. It would have been a nice touch if at least the water had been complimentary. Just felt they are trying to nibble at the edges for more income versus providing service to make you feel great. The glass bottomed pool and lounge deck is a disappointment - only the very end of this 3 meter wide by 25 m long lap pool is glass bottomed and protrudes out about 2m beyond the roof. You can't see down to the road anyway so what's the point?! And the sun leaves the lounge deck in the afternoon - so make sure you do any sun bathing (but why would you in Melbourne?) in the morning..... Deck also very noisy due to the construction work. However, not a bad experience - but could have been outstanding instead of just good.
