On a recent visit to Melbourne, I stayed at 2 different apartment style hotels & Short Stay Apartments were certainly a disappointing choice after a good experience at the Mantra on Russell. Stayed with a business colleague & looked for a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment. We found our apartment had a very large master bedroom with ensuite, but a very small 2nd bedroom at 1 end of the apartment while the 2nd bathroom was near the front door on the other side of the master suite - quite an odd configuration. The 2nd room would have been OK for children, but not really for adults. The only TV was in the lounge, nothing in the bedrooms, and the greatest nuisance for the business traveller was lack of wireless internet. Furnishings in the apartment are sparse & cheap, including a quite barren kitchen in comparison to other similar properties. There is no reception area so you need to register & collect your key at the company's office which is not far but across a wide & busy road, & really inconvenient if you've arrived by cab & are dragging heavy luggage. The biggest selling point is proximity to the Convention Centre, but it is still a 10 minute walk, & lacks the convenience of being close to shopping and other attractions on the City Centre side of the river. All in all, a fairly souless building in an indifferent location, quite expensive considering they only tale longer bookings & don't service daily and I probably wouldn't stay there again.
