Australia’s longest running men-only gay hotel (32 years), catering to the leather blokes, bear and somewhat alternative crowd, this hotel is a fantastic place to stay with very friendly and attentive staff.
All rooms have air con & heating, TV and there are standard rooms (shared bathrooms) and 3 rooms which feature private en-suites with shower/toilet.
All rooms have extremely comfortable Queen sized beds, this hotel is and old building but is kept spotlessly clean well appointed offering a free continental breakfast to all guests, free wifi throughout hotel and a communal lounge area for your comfort and free use of a communal PC to for those travellers who may need one.
Laird staff are available to help guests with any other requirements during office hours 10 - 5 daily, there is no 24 hour reception but guests receive keys to give you access 24 hours.
When staying in hotel you will have access to the beer garden and pinball machines, pool tables, cigarette machine and ATM available...thankfully this hotel is 100% non smoking in all indoor areas (Hotel Rooms Included), free laundry facilities — washer, dryer, iron/ironing board etc is also available as you need it. I believe you can smoke in the beer garden.
Located in Abbotsford it is very close (1 min walk) to Collingwood Train Station and a few mins walk to tram stops that take you into the city.
There are some fantastic hotels in the immediate area who do great food at great prices and who are very gay friendly. also very close to Maccas and HJ's for those late night bear hunger moments!
Getting to the Laird is also easy - From Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine)
SkyBus from Tullamarine will cost $16 one-way ($26 return) to Southern Cross Station in the CBD, then a train to Collingwood Station (2 Hour, Zone 1 ticket, $4.00).
We are staying again in February and very much looking forward to it. The boys who own the pub run the pub and they will do all they can to ensure you enjoy your stay.
during peak times the bar is open late so some noise from downstairs can be heard but very little and to be honest has never caused us any concerns the times we have stayed here. It is what it is and what it is, is a bloody great pub, the heart and pulse of the gay man's community within Victoria and a fantastic place to stay, highly recommend you give it a go lads!
