“Fantastic - would definitely recommend”

We had only 3 nights in Melbourne and the Citadines was a great choice for us, being central to everything and handy to the trams. We were very impressed by the apartment, and it was exactly as represented in the photos (so often accommodation is not.) It had everything we needed, was modern, spacious (for the studio that it was) and very clean. The bed was also very comfortable which is also an important consideration for me when I travel. My husband is quite fussy when it comes to accommodation and he didn't find anything to complain about. We will definitely stay here again should we return to Melbourne.

“Weekend in Melbourne”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

We stayed 2 nights in Melbourne and chose Citadines as we were able to get a 2 bedroom executive apartment that catered for our family of 5. Even before arriving, the staff were very helpful in explaining where to leave our car to check in. Check in was a breeze and we found the onsite car park a real convenience.

The apartment itself was excellent, very neat and clean, with plenty of space for everyone. We had fantastic views of Melbourne as the apartment was on level 24, and even though was very hot weekend, our rooms were cool due to the very good air conditioners in each room. The bathroom facilities were very clean, and the kitchen area also had everything you could want (although we only used for making coffee). The beds were also very comfortable.

Citadines is located right in the heart of the CBD so is an excellent base for sightseeing, shopping, very close to lots of great restaurants, and exploring Melbourne. We thouroughly enjoyed our stay here and would stay again on our next stay in Melbourne.

Room Tip: Stay on higher levels for better views of the Melbourne skyline

“Watch bed layout and hidden costs!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

We stayed 4 nights the last week in January 2012.

Had 2x 1 bedroom apartments which were booked and paid for 6 months prior to our arrival. We had requested adjoining rooms and 4 single beds ( 4 ladies). On arrival one room was on 10th floor and other on 15th floor, and each apartment only had a double bed. No appolgy, only that they were full and take it or leave it.

We were then advised that this is normal configuation and were sorry we had been told otherwise. They then offered a roll a way bed for each apartment, but the cost was an extra A$50 per bed per night. We had already paid $325 per room per night because they didn't have a 2 bedroom available. Had we known this prior to booking we would have booked elsewhere.

Apart from this, the apartments were beautifully clean, well set out, close to everything, and pool was great. Beds were very comfortable. Air conditioning very quiet and efficient.

We thoroughly enjoyed Citadines except for the extra costs and the staff atitudes.

There is a $100 bond per room regardless of the fact we had one booking for 2 rooms.

Reservations staff need to be aware of this bedding configuation and not confirm single beds if they are not available or advise there is an extra cost. Reception staff need to be less off hand and couldn't care less atitude.

Room Tip: Check the bed configuation, don't expect service from the reception staff

“Good with a few minor let downs”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Stayed here for 10 days for the Australian Open. We also booked another 2 rooms for 3 nights for family. The apartment/hotel appealed to us because of our length of stay even thoug hwe did not use the kitchen that much.

Overall it is in a good location, although we had a real painful time checking in. There was no parking out the front so had to park around the back and then walk all the way around. It was a bit of an inconveneince. About a 15-20 min walk to the tennis and also close to most major parts of the city. The $30 a night for parking was a bit of a hit but most cities are the same.

As for the rooms, they were good. We did request a higher floor as most people have said, but we got stuck on level 8 and had the pleasant view of a brick wall! The beds are not that comfy and by the end of our stay both had stiff backs.

Rooms looks like they have had a little neglect and it showed with our room service.Rooms looks like they have had a little neglect and it showed with our room service, we had a bowl and spoon go missing and also had to constantly ask for more shower gel and shampoo. Our room key also was taken a few times (needs to stay in to keep the air con on). Although minor issues they are annoying!

The gym, pool and sauna are decent. Gym is not huge but has enough to keep anyone going and the pool is great for lap swimming.

Staff were ok, but like some people have said none seemed happy. At just over $300 a night we really expected a bit more. We know it was at a premium for the tennis, but last year we stayed at Quay West and would be much happier to go there. It was alittle dearer but just prefferd that location, staff and quality of the rooms/hotel.

Room Tip: Get a higher floor

“Fantastic stay at the Citadines, Melbourne”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We had a fantastic stay in Melbourne thanks to the Citadines. Prior to the trip - we had searched for good value accommodation but it wasn't easy to find something under $200 per night that would appeal to the eye. When we arrived to our studio executive room, it was perfect. Neat, clean, spacious, modern.

It was easy to get to the Citadines thanks to the SkyBus service from Tullamarine airport. For $26 per person return it's excellent value for up to 2 travellers. The bus takes you from the airport to Southern Cross station, from where there is a shuttle bus that will drop you right in front of the Citadines.

The main reason for our trip to Melbourne was to go to watch the Australian Open. Citadines was excellent for that, just a few blocks walk down was the tram stop on Flinders St., which enabled us to catch a 5/10 minute tram ride to the tennis park. We were informed by a helpful staff member that our ticket to the tennis entitled us a trip on the tram. The location was fantastic for exploring the CBD as well.

Positives:
+ Neat, spacious room. Nice bathroom, kitchen facilities - as per the photos on their website. Air conditioning was easy and worked well - important for the hot weather in January.
+ High floor offered good views of the city. We stayed on level 21.
+ Such comfortable bed and pillows.
+ Great location to explore the city. Walking distance to Bourke St Mall, Collins St, Flinders St. Equally good place to stay to go to the tennis park or MCG. Also, there are tram stops nearby which make it easy to explore wider Melbourne.
+ We didn't try the restaurant downstairs - however, nearby are a whole host of restaurants, cafes. We walked down to the lane ways on Degraves St to enjoy our breakfasts there.

Negatives:
- As another reviewer said, the staff are happy to answer questions but won't go out of their way to assist - as opposed to other places we've stayed at in the world. Very minor though, on the whole the staff were good.

Overall, for the price we paid - we were thrilled to have found the Citadines for Melbourne and we will definitely be staying here again on our next visit.

Room Tip: High floors have great views and are quiet.
