“Perfect location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

I stayed in a "Park view" room at this hotel for one night on business. It is located only 2 minutes from Salamanca Place, and about 5 minutes walk from Battery Point. My room was spacious and modern enough, but glass slide door onto balcony was locked, and the walk to Reception for a key wasn't worth the effort! Otherwise, couldn't fault the room or hotel. Parking is free on site.

“Charm and Cosiness for Girls Weekend”

Three of us, all female school friends of the early sixties (gives you some idea of our age) decided to visit Hobart after many years and chose this lovely hotel for a two night stay. It was essential that we had two bedrooms as some of us snored and we were booked into apartment 17 with a lovely view over the harbour and wharf area right in the centre of Hobart just up from Salamanca Place.

The weather for the three days was delightful and the hotel met our expectations. It is classified by the National Trust and was built during the 1870s but had all the more modern conveniences that we needed, plus plenty of room. Just needed a couple of extra tea bags that took a long time coming!

Big windows overlooked the water and they needed a bit of a clean, but everything else was sparkling for our 2 night stay.

The staff were friendly and helpful. We could use the internet to confirm our flights back to Melbourne. We had all the newspapers if we wanted to sit in their very cosy cocktail bar and sip a wine. We didn't use their resturaunt as there were so many around the wharf to select from and with such lovely weather, it was great to sit out in the sun.

We all decided that we would recommend this charming hotel, which looked like a popular venue for weddings. We will return, we loved Hobart and Lenna's hospitality.

Room Tip: Apartment 17 was on the corner with two bedrooms and a good view so imagine higher would be even bet...

“Great for a special occasion, with a beautiful view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

We are locals and recently spent a night at Lenna as a treat to celebrate my husband's birthday. I chose to pay a bit extra for a Harbour View room and was quite impressed. The bedroom/sitting room didn't have a lot to distinguish it from other upmarket hotels, but the view was amazing! We really enjoyed looking out over the harbour at night, and enjoying the same view in the daylight the next morning. We last stayed at Lenna about 12 years ago, and they have definitely renovated since then! The furnishings and fittings are much more modern.

The bathroom was probably not great for anyone who has difficulty getting about, because you have to step up to the shower, but otherwise modern and attractive. I was particularly impressed with a long, narrow window that provided a beautiful glimpse of sky and harbour while I was in the shower - though this probably didn't encourage me to shorten my shower and save water! ;-)

All the fittings were new and clean, and the bed was very comfortable.

My only suggestions: we stayed on a windy night and the noise was quite eerie in our room, though I was sure all the windows were shut. Noise was also very loud from the hallway. As with any hotel, take earplugs if you are easily disturbed from your rest. Also, the cost of broadband looked quite exorbitant, and it would be a real plus if management investigated free wireless broadband.

Being able to easily access the Salamanca area by foot is the real bonus of staying here. The park immediately next door (Princes' Park) is also lovely for a picnic or a quiet relax on the lawns, or under a tree (there is a nice little playground there for families). By walking back up through Arthurs' Circus, you can get onto Hampden Rd and have a stroll round the antique shops and lovely little cafes there if that takes your fancy... plus see some lovely quaint little houses.

“It's Not What it Claims to Be”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

Looking at Lenna's website you could be easily forgiven for believing it to be the most prestige hotel in Hobart. And priced the way it is you'd kind of hope it was. But it simply isn't. While the location is superb (as everyone else is quick to point out) and the reception area gloriously historical, the rooms, which are in a separate wing are, architecturally, little more than motel accommodation. The rooms are so tired that even the recent lick of paint and some rather gaudy new light fittings are nowhere near enough to justify $300/night. The furniture is the faux antique style that was popular in hotel rooms in the eighties but disappeared prior to the turn of the century. The bathroom fittings are ancient in an ugly way and things like no exhaust fan in the bathroom made me wonder whether or not the "4 stars" are something the owners of the property might have bestowed upon themselves. But it was quiet, or at least the other guests were quiet, the room was certainly large enough, I slept well, I found the staff helpful on the rare occasion I needed something, I didn't eat at the hotel because there is such range of restaurants within easy walking distance and also because a cursory glance at the menu suggested that it too was over-priced. At half the price I would stay there again but at $300/night I would be seeing what else Hobart has to offer.
