The old adage that you shouldn't spend your holiday sitting in a hotel room doesn't apply here. Sipping a wine on our balcony on the pier overlooking the picturesque cove with a gentle breeze clinking the yachts' rigging was a sublime and serene experience. The centrality of the location can't be beaten with many attractions and departure points in very close proximity. The MONA wharf and Bruny Island Cruises office are your neighbours. Having everything within one or two minutes walking distance makes for a very relaxing break. Perfect for a short stay when you don't want to fuss around and waste precious time organising how to get from a to b.
Regarding the sound issue that some reviewers have mentioned, it proved to be of no concern to us. Sure, once or twice we heard someone moving around in the adjacent room but this property is a magnificently converted 1930's wharf, not a hermetically sealed concrete block. During our two night stay we were hardly aware that anybody else was even staying there. It was very peaceful. My bed was fantastic, like sleeping on a cloud.
The staff were all lovely and very accommodating, especially the lady at reception who first welcomed us. Later on we had a courtesy call from Courtney to see how things were going and she was also very helpful when I asked for dining recommendations.
Staying at Somerset not only enhanced our first Tassie trip, it really was an experience in it's own right and well worth it. Loved it.
Room Tip: Definitely get a room on the north side with a balcony
