Rather than take a ship's cruise tour, we opted for a prearranged private tour right from the ship's dock in Hobart with this small private tour company. We were not disappointed as we selected their Top4 package and visited Bonorong Sanctuary, Louisa's Walk, Mt. Wellington and Richmond Village. Our guide Hani made everyone feel very at ease and contributed to a great day exploring the region. A little gift of local Tasmanian fudge before reboarding our ship was a nice touch on her part.

Sam McLennan and his Great Expeditions will provide you with all the local and area sites without the muss and fuss of a big bus and long winded historical rhetoric. He took us for an entire day..we saw everything from the local flor and fauna, to Port Arthur, Remakable Cave, all the bays, and more. His personality and educated background gives you insight into the life of Tasmania ans well as taking you to restaurants that are not on the regular tours for special food..even fed us fresh abalone!!! We enjoyed EVERY minute and would highly recommend GP and Sam as FIRST CHOICE for group or individual tours!! GAGPTH!

This tour was a bespoke, 3 day tour for My Girlfriend and I, with the aim being to surf at stunning spots on empty waves. From the initial reservation, Sam kept us well informed with possible plans, obviously being largely dictated by the location of the best surf conditions as well as ensuring to cater for the spread of experience and ability between Victoria and I. This turned out to be one of the best aspects of the whole tour - not only did we get the epic views and the deserted waves, but there were always multiple options available, all of which were applicable to a beginner and an improver at the same time. Whilst confidence could be gained on the smaller waves, experience of much bigger things was only a short paddle away! If surfing was complete for the day, there was still no lack of activities, from night nature watches to sight seeing or fishing. This was always accompanied by Sam's expansive and in-depth knowledge, due to his extensive education and bottomless pit of world experiences. Despite all of these great bonus extras to the tour, the core request of a unique surfing adventure under the expert tuition and supervision of a seasoned instructor, not to mention surfer, was second to none. If you want a personalized tour, great expeditions is what you want. I went on a 3 day surftrip and got to see the beauties of tasmania in and out of the water. I had one of the best surfsessions in my whole 3 month surftrip through Australia, surfing uncrowded surfbreaks with only me and Sam, owner of great expeditions. Sam picked me up at the airport and the journey started right away. The tour was tailored to meet my needs. We walked into the world heritage area, did camping, surfed remote beaches by ourself and enjoyed the Tasmanian wildlife. Sam not only is an experienced surfer, his knowledge of Tassie's history and flora and fauna makes him an exceptional guide too. This tour was a highlight of my stay in Australia. I would definitely recommend great expeditions to anyone looking to discover Tasmania.
