“upscale”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

This was our last stay following a 3 week car trip "down under". This residential neighborhood was very quaint. Front gardens full of roses. Grande Vue was re-landscaping the front while we were there so am sure the new English garden should be awesome. Adequate parking. Easy walk to several nice restaurants, but they don't start serving dinner until 6PM. 15 min. walk to Salamanca Market.... a must on Saturday.

Huge vase of fresh flowers in the front hall & lobby were a pleasant greeting. Public areas tastefully furnished. Being on a budget, we chose the Chambre room for 3 nights. Nothing "budget" re: accommodations ! Upscale furnishings, bedding, towels, carpet, window treatments. Marble bathroom floor. Heated towel rack. Liked the folding doors to close off the mini-kitchen. Added surprise treat to have fresh muffins delivered to our room @ 5PM each day. As advertised, no view from this room..... well, a drive-way @ eye level, but outside could not see in (we tried) . Being in the basement, was difficult to haul luggage up/down narrow, winding stairs. Helpful management was appreciated.
Please note: central heating can not be regulated in rooms.

The water view from upper floors is fabulous ! Splurge and go for it --

“Highly recommended”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

We stayed there for four nights and loved every minute of it. The property is great, centrally located, with good views. The room was very spacious with spa bath, nice furnishings, clean and comfortable. The added touch was the the owners baked muffins every evening and left them in the room for us. There is no restaurant in the property but there are several great ones within walking distance. The price was above average but it was worth every penny.

“Luxurious inside and out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

From the exterior this boutique colonial-style accommodation looked like a fine place to stay. There was a private parking space right in front and there could be more parking spaces around. In the lobby we were welcomed by the pleasant flowery and calming scent and the marbled interior gave a luxurious touch to this place. The hosts were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. I liked the all white fluffy pillows, blanket and bedsheet as it felt more like home than a hotel. The bathroom was covered with red marble floor to ceiling. The big serve of continental breakfast was brought up to our room every day so we could enjoy the delicious bread (felt as though they came from a popular brakery nearby) while looking out into the bay. Walking distance to Salamanca Market and seafood eateries at the wharf. I have recommended this hotel to my family members who visited Tasmania subsequently and they too had fond memories of Grand Vue. This review was late but better late than never.

“Beatiful Hotel - Great Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2011

We stayed 3 nights in the Chambre Queen Room on a Flaming Re Hot deal from Wotif. While we did not have views of the Derwent from this room (which is why it was the Wotif deal), it was so comfortable, tastefully decorated and well appointed that it did not matter. Plunger coffee, quality soaps, muffins or slice delivered by John, the owner, every evening! The hotel's location in Battery Point is very central and easy walk to Salamanca and Constitution Dock, as well as great walks around the local area. Could not have been better!

“Very Comfortable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2011

Impressively welcoming would be the way we would describe this place. We were not the easiest of quests to accommodate. Having flown direct from the UK, we arrived at the hotel at 11 am, somewhat tired and in need of a rest. We had told them before hand and they said they would try to have a room ready for us but we might have to wait – a perfectly reasonable response. In the event, our room was ready and we were very relieved. The hotel seems to have recently been totally redecorated, new carpets, curtains etc. It was so clean we felt we had to take our shoes off when we came through the front door! Our room (down in the basement area) was large with a good sized window (not a great view), a large wet room style bathroom, microwave and a very comfortable bed. Absolutely no complaints from us on this. Parking is easy on the street outside and the hotel has parking permits available for guests to use. If you pay by cash, you get 5% off the bill. Two freshly cooked buns per afternoon delivered free to the room seems to be one of the characteristics of the hotel. Breakfast was not included in our rate but was available at $12.50 each (roughly the same as you might pay for a breakfast out in town) and it is good for a cold continental style breakfast. There are plenty of eating places nearby and it takes about 30 minutes to walk back up the hill from Salamanca / Hobart CBD. Its only disadvantage is that it is not in central Hobart – but that is also its advantage because it suffers from none of the problems of a small town centre hotel. In summary, other than that our room was uncomfortably cold when the hotel central heating was not turned on, it is one of the nicest places we have stayed when we have been seeking a bit of comfort at a reasonable price.

Room Tip: Some rooms have better views than others but generally cost more
