Impressively welcoming would be the way we would describe this place. We were not the easiest of quests to accommodate. Having flown direct from the UK, we arrived at the hotel at 11 am, somewhat tired and in need of a rest. We had told them before hand and they said they would try to have a room ready for us but we might have to wait – a perfectly reasonable response. In the event, our room was ready and we were very relieved. The hotel seems to have recently been totally redecorated, new carpets, curtains etc. It was so clean we felt we had to take our shoes off when we came through the front door! Our room (down in the basement area) was large with a good sized window (not a great view), a large wet room style bathroom, microwave and a very comfortable bed. Absolutely no complaints from us on this. Parking is easy on the street outside and the hotel has parking permits available for guests to use. If you pay by cash, you get 5% off the bill. Two freshly cooked buns per afternoon delivered free to the room seems to be one of the characteristics of the hotel. Breakfast was not included in our rate but was available at $12.50 each (roughly the same as you might pay for a breakfast out in town) and it is good for a cold continental style breakfast. There are plenty of eating places nearby and it takes about 30 minutes to walk back up the hill from Salamanca / Hobart CBD. Its only disadvantage is that it is not in central Hobart – but that is also its advantage because it suffers from none of the problems of a small town centre hotel. In summary, other than that our room was uncomfortably cold when the hotel central heating was not turned on, it is one of the nicest places we have stayed when we have been seeking a bit of comfort at a reasonable price.
Room Tip: Some rooms have better views than others but generally cost more
