My husband and I stayed in a one-bedroom apartment at the Medina for five nights around Christmas time in 2011. The building is 19thC, with lovely thick walls, so it was very, very quiet, peaceful and spacious.
Our apartment had well equipped kitchen and next time we will take our own breakfast provisions, as breakfast in the dining room was fairly average, with a small choice of cereal, some tiny pastries and mediocre service. We had three different sets of waitresses the days we were there and I gained the distinct impression they had barely been trained in hospitality. If we wanted something we were obliged to find them and interrupt their conversation. It was obvious they were not interested in their work.
The room information advertised room service throughout the day, so when I returned at lunch time from a few hours of Christmas shopping, I called the room service number and the number rang out. When I dialed reception, I was advised room service was only available during the evening. That was annoying.
There is a lap pool and some gym equipment if one needs exercise and the pool was a perfect temperature.
The hotel is centrally located, very close to Gouger Street, which has many good restaurants and Chinatown. It is also close to the various court buildings and about five-tent minutes walk from Rundle Mall and the main shopping precinct.
There is no on site parking, however there is a parking station across the road, and parking was included in the price of the room.
Apart from the few gripes above, I recommend the Medina for a comfortable and quiet stay in Adelaide.
