“Wonderful Concierge and Hotel. Good base to explore South Australia's wineries”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

My wife and I spent five days at the Intercontinental Hotel in Adelaide - and what an enjoyable time it was!

We upgraded from a standard room to the Club level. This provided access to the Club lounge which provided an excellent breakfast, afternoon tea and drinks during the afternoon and early evening.

Days were spent visiting the various wineries surrounding Adelaide. To start each day we consulted with the excellent Concierge who have in-depth knowledge of the best places to visit. Everyone of the Concierge staff were extremely good and should be recommended. Nothin was too much trouble. Marion, assistant manager, was excellent and provided a selection of restaurants and yet more winery knowledge.

We finally departed refreshed and ready to do battle on Friday...together with two and a half boxes of different wines from the region.

Recommendations - The Lanes, Hentley Farm, Deviation Road, Yangarra and Torbreck.

Enjoy!

Room Tip: Upgrade to the Club Floor

“Short Memories”

I shouted my mother and father as well as my husband and myself for a night at the Intercontinental Adelaide in August 2011. The cost was $325 per couple for the Breafast on 21st floor. We had stayed there before when it was the Hyatt quite regulary...so we were what you would call Regulars.
A few weeks later we called into the Intercontinental at 8.30pm and explained to them we just wanted a standard room (sunday night) and would be leaving at 7am the following morning.........they wanted to charge us $265.00 for a few hours sleep (the Porter at the front of the hotel had told us before we went in there that the hotel had only 30% of the rooms booked), we explained that we were Regulars, the woman at the front desk said she would ask her boss who was out the back if we could have a discount after getting our records up on the computor, she came back and said her boss said it was $265.00. So we just left and will NEVER return again, we have spent alot of money there as we are from country South Australia - we will never go back again. The Cocktail Hour at 5pm on 21st floor was very average compared to when the Hyatt owned it.
Intercontinental - YOU HAVE A VERY SHORT MEMORY

“Dated hotel. Centrally located. Staff amongst the very best in Australia.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2011

LOCATION: Centrally located by the River Torrens. The Intercontinental Hotel Adelaide is a five minute walk to Adelaide’s main shopping street, Rundle Mall. Valet parking costs 45 AUD per day. The valet staff was friendly and fast.
HOTEL: Very courteous and experienced front desk staff. Fast and efficient check-in and check-out. The French speaking concierge was friendly and accurate in her advice. The room with river view was of an adequate size, though dated. The sunset view from the room over the River Torrens was really nice. The beds were good, so were the pillows. The bathroom was of a good size, clean and had an excellent shower. The breakfast was fresh and tasty. Standard breakfast staff.
CONCLUSION: Though the cupboard doors were old and jammed and the rest of the room was dated, the Intercontinental Hotel Adelaide made you feel very welcome. The valet service was smooth, the receptionists and the concierge were amongst the very best I have experienced in Australia. A very good hotel. Recommended.

“Certainly isn't 4 star service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2011

I stayed at the hotel for 2 nights in august. I've stayed at a lot of IHG hotels & until recently have been a gold member. The service in this hotel is shocking. It was my birthday when I was there & my family sent via express post a birthday card to make sure I didn't feel alone. The post office site said it had been delivered on my birthday but I hadn't received anything when I came back that night from work. I called both concierge & reception & I got such an attitude & that the letter hadn't arrived. I called the next morning, again they kept saying nothing had arrived & I got severe attitude. That's when I lost it on the phone & told them the Australia Post website said someone had signed for it on the 1st day. I was told both myself & Australia Post were wrong. Suddenly 5 minutes later I get a call, they found my letter in the office, not guest mail. It took them a further 15 minutes to bring up the letter. The attitude of the reception & concierge was a disgrace & the worst I've ever had at an IHG. On top of that the express breakfast doesn't have full options so I had to call for breakfast, 15mins I was told, it tooh over 45. Let's just say next time I'm in Adelaide for work I'm definitely not staying here again.

“An excellent hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2011

I highly recommend this hotel, having just stayed there on a business trip.

Some of the reviews here refer negatively to the 1980s design, but this is an example of good 80s design which still presents very well. The foyer has a very grand and spacious feel. The rooms are large, very comfortable, modern and with everything you'd expect. The bathrooms are also spacious and very well presented.

The gym is probably the best of any Australian business hotel at which I've stayed. The equipment is super modern, and the staff even come up to you asking whether they can be of assistance!

Room Tip: Some rooms appear to have nice views over the river, and others look back over Adelaide city
