Check in - I pretty sure I messed up the reservation when I booked it through my corporate travel agent as when I arrived they were going to give me was a twin room and they didn't have a record of my Hilton Honours number. This was quickly rectified and I was immediately upgraded to a King Deluxe Room. I think being a Silver Hilton Honours member helps when trying to obtain an upgrade. The service at Check-in was very good and they efficiently fixed my booking mistakes.
The Room - I was located on the 9th Floor and had views over Victoria Square. The room was what you would expect from a five star hotel. The bed was comfortable, not to soft and not too firm. There was a dual speed Sunbeam hair dryer. On the downside I thought the bathroom was a little small but it did have good quality toiletries (PeterThomasRoth). There was no bath in the bathroom, but you have the choice of a rain shower or a handheld. In the bedroom is a flat screen tv which has a variety of free-to-air channels as well as several Foxtel (cable) channels. There are in-house movies available for a fee as well. The bedside alarm clock has a connection for iPods so you can play your music through it. The air conditioning was quite loud in my room.
The Facilities - The gym is well equipped, with a few treadmills, a stepper and bike as well as weights. There's a sauna and spa and an outdoor pool.
The Valet - I've found the concierge to always be polite and efficient when getting my vehicle, this visit was no exception.
The Location - This hotel is located in a pretty good spot with The Central Market next door and a variety of restaurants along Gouger Street just around the corner. Within 10 minutes walk you could Rundle Mall or the Casino.
The Food - I ordered breakfast the first morning and I personally didn't think it was up to scratch. The Wholegrain toast was cooked well in most places and a little soggy in a couple of the corners. The coffee, or should I say skinny latte, was pretty average. However I am yet to find a good quality coffee in Adelaide. Maybe it's the water!! For dinner I ordered the healthy choice salmon dish with candied lemon. The candied lemon worked well with the sweet of the candy versus the sour of the lemon. The salmon was cooked, but probably overlooked for my liking. Sometimes I think that restaurants should ask how you would like your salmon, similar to when they ask you how you want your steak.
Overall - I have stayed at the Hilton Adelaide on many occasions and it is yet to disappoint. It provides constantly good service and the rooms are clean, modern and well equipped. It is always my first preference when staying in Adelaide and is a stand out based on other alternatives.
