Hi,
We stayed at the Q1 resort on the Gold Coast Qld for 10 days earlier this month having stayed there several years back. We rented one of the large apartments on the 55th floor. gee has this lot dropped the ball considering they are claiming to be one of the "premier" resorts on the coast.
Our first apartment was dirty, air conditioning not working, lights out, furniture badly worn and slightly dirty. Not something you expect when you are pating $460 per night. Got offered another room in 2 days time, but decided to just ask for our money back amd go elsewhere that I knew still had a nice apartment vacant, then miraculously the room we could not get for another 2 days was free. Moved all of our belongings to the next apartment, and it was much nicer, but again, lights were out both inside and on the verandah. The T.V. in the main bedroom could not be fixed, walls and doors were again badly scuffed, but we decided to stay as it was better than the first apartment.
Went down to get a few drinks at the bar, of course only open limited hours due to it not being "Peak" season.... and attitude to go with it too !!! Little wonder we are all heading off overseas. The problem with Qld holiday destinations is the Queenslanders who work in it !!!
So decide to have a BBQ for dinner opposite the pool. The BBQ's are filthy from either breakfast or lunch and there are no utencils to clean it with !!! I ring reception, and they send a young fellow out to clean them. By this time 3 families are waiting to use the BBQ's. Upon speaking to the young guy, he said they only get cleaned once per day !!!! Are you serious Q1 !!!! With over 400 apartments how is this supposed to work !!! Seriously... Ewww.
The smells coming into the hallways from the rubbish shute is very strong whilst you wait for the elevator.
Now don't get me wrong here folks. If this was a 3 star place you would be happy, but they are advertising and charging for a 4 plus star experience which it was several years ago, but definately not now. Look around there are many new places just opened or opening soon.
Hope this is helpful.
Room Tip: Ask for an apartment from the 55th floor and above overlooking the beach.

Dear barry w,
Thankyou for taking the time to post a review on Trip Advisor about your recent stay at Q1 Resort and Spa. All feedback is genuinely appreciated from our valued guests and this is used to improve and monitor the product and services that we offer. Whilst I understand that your stay at Q1 did not live up to your expectations, I trust that you still enjoyed the fantastic Gold Coast.
I regret that you did not like the apartment that you initially arrived into. As Q1 is a strata building, Q1 Resort apartments are managed on behalf of owners. Q1 resort is under new Management which is committed to continuing a program of refurbishment to all apartments so that we can remain a leader in the very competitive Gold Coast accommodation market. I am pleased that we were able to change several bookings to accommodate your needs shortly after your arrival. I do apologise that some of your lights were initially not working and that your bedroom television was not operational. Our maintenance department very rarely misses faults in our apartments and I am sorry that this was not immediately fixed to your satuisfaction. Although we did offer you a room move, I can understand why this may have been inconvenient for you.
I regret that you found our BBQ facilities to be below the standards that you expected. Although they are thoroughly cleaned daily, we acknowledge your feedback and will consider cleaning them more regularly. The Q1 cafe is seperately owned and managed to the resort. These comments have been forwarded to them as well for review of thier operating hours. Our rubbish rooms are emptied and cleaned daily. The residual odour that you detected from the inner rubbish chute has now been rectified. I apologise for this.
In regards to your apparant aversion to working Queensland Australians in hospitality, I will allow intelligent readers to reach thier own conclusions about this sentiment as they do with reviews in general.
I can assure you that these matters have been thoroughly investigated and addressed with the Management team. As a result, we have adopted more strict and thorough procedures to ensure this does not reoccur and that we meet and exceed the expectations of our valued guests and clients.
Kind Regards,
Melissa Papp
Front Office Manager
