“Disasterous - not worth the money”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2011

So upon arrival the vacant looking receptionist acted like she couldn't find our booking. It was only on production of the confirmation of the reservation that she finally allocated our apartment. We were given apartment 12 on the 4th floor. Size wise the apartments are good but that's as positive as it gets. The apartment was very dated with chipped paint all around, had a musty smell and was not what you would call spotlessly clean. The large sliding glass balcony doors looked like they had been wiped over with a greasy rag and the same goes for the glass dining table. The bedrooms were functional although you had to prise yourself into the "en suite" to the master bedroom - this also had no toilet. The second bedroom bathroom which was roomier and better equipped had mould all over the ceiling and flaking paint work. The kitchen was basic with basic equipment but the windows were corroded and worn. The outdoor pool was small but functional and as it rained most of the time we were there we attempted to use the indoor pool. This had such a strong smell of chlorine it made your eyes water and for one of our asthmatic guests rendered it unusable because it affected their breathing. Considering the money we paid this was no where near worth it. Never again!

“Shocking condition to let out a room ....Room 22 Level 6...”

we had a list of broken items and filthy conditions, stained and cigaretted burns to floor and furniture. broken furniture just sitting waiting to be toppled. No shower screen provided.
We had to clean it when first moved in..... and they kept money from our bond to " steam clean " the flooring. The room was given back in a better condition than it was given out to us.
Shocking service and true bandits for keeping part of the bond.

The apartments are truly amazing, airy, clean and roomy and have everything you could possible need - our apartment looked directly onto the beach, was just breathtaking. Only a few minutes walk from the central area for shops and bars but never any noise issues.

“More than I expected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 April 2010

My fiance and I were in Melbourne for a family reuinon and decided to make a detour to the Gold Coast on the way home. Booking accommodation was rather last minute but fortunately we found a one bedroom apartment available with Alexander. We paid $AU990 for 6 nights which was a bit more than I wanted to pay but still pretty good for the peak season. Communication via email to enquire about dates, request a booking and make payment was quick and easy, big thumbs up here.

On arrival: there was also quite a foul smell outside the front entrance which made me wonder if I'd made the right choice! However, the next day we found out it was because they were landscaping the garden feature opposite the front door, and the smell was fertiliser. So while not enticing, totally understandable and probably gone when you get there! The lobby is not very welcoming, quite dark and small. However the guy at reception was very helpful. Didn't give us a receipt upon arrival though, which I was advised we would get and this caused a bit of confusion during check out.

Room: our apartment was more than I expected! Wonderfully open and spacious, decent sized balcony, CLEAN! We were on the 4th floor so while the view was not spectacular, it was still pretty awesome at night! We didn't need air conditioning as we just left the balcony door open at night and this gave us a very nice breeze. The bed was comfortable if a little bit squeaky but that was no major. The bathroom was small but very clean. Seperate toilet (off the laundry) which i liked and this was also clean. The laundry comes with washing machine and drier. TIP: leave the laundry door open if you're using the the drier as the condensation makes the floor very slippery if you close it. Kitchen was fully equipped, all you need to do is add food. Only gripe I have is that the vinyl lounge suite..not the best feeling when it's hot and you're sticking to the seat! However, overall, LOVED coming back to the apartment at the end of a long day.

Pool: a little small but pretty good. Loved that there was both indoor and outdoor pool and a spa as well!

Location: perfect. About 15minute walk to Cavill Ave which is close enough that you don't have to bus and far enough that you don't hear too much noise. There is a bottle shop and really good convenience store right next door as well as a hot food takeaways. The bus stops to everywhere you need to go (theme parks, shopping malls etc) are a minutes walk from the front door! The beach itself is only 10 minutes walk away too.

We will definitely return to the Alexander on our next visit to the Gold Coast :)

We had a very relaxing stay again at Alexander Holiday aprtments on gold coast hwy. I note some of the reviews are about Hervy Bay which is a different Alexander Apartmerns.
We found the full kitchen satisfied our requirements completly. The front loader washing machine worked well. The balancy is nice and looks out across to the beach. The apartments dont have airconditioning unless you request a unit and as we dont care for ac anyway that suited us fine. The overhead fans more than suffice in our opinion. THe shower worked well and the bed was comfortable. THe location is very central on the junction of two bus lines. There is a underground car park for those who bring cars. Overall we are happy to come back a third time for our next GOld Coast holiday.
Its a great price. If you want a nice homely type of place to stay without all those fancy bells and whistles but the ammenities you would have at home then this would be for you.
One thing - the rooms are refresehed once during your stay (we stayed 10 days). Its up to you to provide your things. They do provide towells and starter soaps & detergents etc tho. also like most apartments of this kind its the customers responsibility to keep the place clean and tidy although they do refresh the place once during your stay. We were quite happy with that as it was a great price.
