My fiance and I were in Melbourne for a family reuinon and decided to make a detour to the Gold Coast on the way home. Booking accommodation was rather last minute but fortunately we found a one bedroom apartment available with Alexander. We paid $AU990 for 6 nights which was a bit more than I wanted to pay but still pretty good for the peak season. Communication via email to enquire about dates, request a booking and make payment was quick and easy, big thumbs up here.
On arrival: there was also quite a foul smell outside the front entrance which made me wonder if I'd made the right choice! However, the next day we found out it was because they were landscaping the garden feature opposite the front door, and the smell was fertiliser. So while not enticing, totally understandable and probably gone when you get there! The lobby is not very welcoming, quite dark and small. However the guy at reception was very helpful. Didn't give us a receipt upon arrival though, which I was advised we would get and this caused a bit of confusion during check out.
Room: our apartment was more than I expected! Wonderfully open and spacious, decent sized balcony, CLEAN! We were on the 4th floor so while the view was not spectacular, it was still pretty awesome at night! We didn't need air conditioning as we just left the balcony door open at night and this gave us a very nice breeze. The bed was comfortable if a little bit squeaky but that was no major. The bathroom was small but very clean. Seperate toilet (off the laundry) which i liked and this was also clean. The laundry comes with washing machine and drier. TIP: leave the laundry door open if you're using the the drier as the condensation makes the floor very slippery if you close it. Kitchen was fully equipped, all you need to do is add food. Only gripe I have is that the vinyl lounge suite..not the best feeling when it's hot and you're sticking to the seat! However, overall, LOVED coming back to the apartment at the end of a long day.
Pool: a little small but pretty good. Loved that there was both indoor and outdoor pool and a spa as well!
Location: perfect. About 15minute walk to Cavill Ave which is close enough that you don't have to bus and far enough that you don't hear too much noise. There is a bottle shop and really good convenience store right next door as well as a hot food takeaways. The bus stops to everywhere you need to go (theme parks, shopping malls etc) are a minutes walk from the front door! The beach itself is only 10 minutes walk away too.
We will definitely return to the Alexander on our next visit to the Gold Coast :)
