“A+ for Alexander Apartments”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

I have just come back from a 7 day stay at the Gold Coast (3rd Feb 2012). I honestly cannot understand the previous reviews as my experience of Alexander Apartments was very enjoyable. I researched self-contained apartments at Surfers Paradise to the nth degree - I had stayed in other places and found them to be unremarkable, if not a bit grotty. What impressed me about the team at Alexander is the immediate reply to my email enquiry about rates and facilities. The staff were very prompt and generously answered all my questions before booking. They were always helpful during the whole week too with lots of travel tips and other helpful tourist information. Staying somewhere with approachable staff is vital to making a good holiday. Upon arriving, I was thrilled with our two bedroom Ocean View apartment which was tastefully decorated with contemporary furnishings. It was spotless with inviting bedlinen, pristine, fluffy towels and a fully equipped kitchen with superb appliances. The bedrooms were a very good size with loads of storage space. The air-conditioning unit was whisper-quiet and the bedroom fans were great for the balmy nights. Now, let me get to the best bit: the views. On the 10th floor we had breathtaking views of the beach which was only metres away and to the south-east side which afforded a sweeping view of Broadwater Canal. Whether watching dawn break, or gazing at the light-spangled, futuristic towers at night, I never tired of sitting out on the balcony. I have stayed closer to the centre of Surfers Paradise and I much preferred the location of Alexander Apartments; it's nestled among what I think are the better blocks - away from the loud crowd. I also enjoyed the quiet and privacy of the apartment block - the walls are so solid I did not hear a peep from any of the other guests. There was some roadworks going on (as a local tour guide told me that the council are building traffic calming intersections to enhance pedestrian safety - isn't that a good thing?) but nothing that could not be blocked out with some ear plugs if you needed a siesta! In any case, these took place during the day when everyone was out and about. I thought the lush, tropical landscaping of the gardens and rock pool feature had a very relaxing effect on me. I was there during the heavy rains so I found the heated pool and spa, in addition to the cold water pool, very useful. My understanding is that management have begun to embark on sprucing up the place with fresh painting of the exterior. I know there are a plethora of luxury apartments at Surfers but make a quick online comparison and you'll see that Alexander Apartments offer a bit of luxury for a very affordable, mid-range price. I would definitely and unequivocally recommend Alexander Apartments to any family or individual looking for great value accommodation and genuine, friendly service. Thanks for making my stay so chilled and memorable. Now, how am I going to face going back to work tomorrow . . . ? Mary from Melbourne.

“OLD apt and Bad Services - not worth the money”

The facilities are old.
The bed sheets are dirty.
Cockroaches can be seen in the apt.
Very bad/unfriendly customer services.
Not worth the money. You can find far better alternatives in Gold Coast.

“Good and bad - ring in advance”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

We recently stayed at the Alex apartments and have good and bad things to say about it. We booked into a 2 bedroom apartment which was spacious and clean, but on the first night of our 5 night stay we were treated to all night roadworks outside our window featuring jackhammers and road grinding. We were not told about this when we booked. After consultation with staff we were moved to the only available accomm away from the road, a 1 bedroom. It took some going back and forth with different staffs to work out the finances and it was not until checkout that an agreement was reached. I would suggest if you are thinking about staying there, that you call and ask to speak to the owner before you get there, to ensure you do not lose a night of your hols as we did! The roadworks are literally right outside the front windows! I still am not happy about being messed around as we were and squashed into smaller room, but the other options offered were financially not acceptable. As to the accommodation, it was clean and the sea breeze was beautiful, so make sure you get a room away from the road. The whole place is quite dated, but fine for the needs of most families. The indoor pool is fantastic, they also have an outdoor pool which was a bit chilly, tennis court which is mostly shaded, a few outdoor relaxing areas, and bus stops very close handy. It is close to the beach, surfers, a d broadbeach. The lint rail, when it is operational, will have a stop close by. All in all, I would stay again because of these plusses, BUT, I would ensure I spoke to the owner before going to make sure everything was in order before we got there. Reception only open from 9 to 5, so if you are hitting theme larks, shopping etc, you will not see them outside of these times.

Room Tip: Make sure you talk to the owner before you get there to avoid the noise issues. Get a room away from...

“Destroyed my Queensland Holiday!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

Most horrible stay ina Queensland apartment in my life! I'm 21 and so was my boyfriend, we new the accommodation was mid-priced, but we didn't expect the facilities to be THIS bad! Photos do not give a 'current' perception of the premises at all, it is dated, the rooms are very tired and quite shabby. The pool area is also shabby. The light in the kitchen did not work so I had to cook in very dim light, the fridge leaked every night leaving a water pool under it. After only being supplied with half a roll of toilet paper it ran out 'obviously' - when I asked reception for another roll, they looked but could not find any in the office so preceded to tell me that it was customers responsibility to buy more toilet paper when the first roll runs out!! Seriously?? That seems highly ridiculous and also a hygene issue if you ask me! Service staff were unfriendly and unaccomidating. Oh. And while we were there the whole stay the entire building was pressure washed, starting early each morning, loud and really ruined the atmosphere. So disappointed!! If your looking for a 'bed' dimly to sleep in, go ahead, as this is not luxury by any stretch of the imagination.

“Great stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2011

Away from the hustle of central Surfers, though within walking distance of amenities and with good bus links. Lovely views, all the amenities you would need, and plenty of space. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Not cutting edge modern, but very comfortable and affordable. The children enjoyed the shared facilities.

Room Tip: Higher levels afford you better views, including the ocean. During our stay there was a lot of road...
