“Poor value, mediocre, noisy.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

We had two last minute rooms booked by an agent, , one single overnight due to missing a connecting flight in Brisbane. We paid about AUD$170 for one twin share total including taxes. I think the base price was $139 but then we had to pay an extra $15 for the second person and the taxes. As others have said, its $25-30 taxi from the airport and it takes about 10 -15 mins depending on traffic, So that adds to the cost when looking for a reasonable budget hotel close to the airport. On your return they can arrange a shuttle for $10 per person, but with four of us it worked out cheaper to have a cab.
While it wasn't the worst hotel I've stayed in, it was pretty crummy for the price, with everything seeming old and a bit grubby, mouldy grouting in the bathrooms, roaring of the traffic going by sometimes rattling the doors onto the balcony, having to haul bags up two floors (no offer of assistance), etc.
In contrast to some, we did enjoy our meal in the restaurant (had the roast of the day, a seafood platter, and an apple pie desert), the waiter was friendly and it was quick!

When I went back through Brisbane a week later I got a nice 4 star place for the same price that was literally 5 minutes more away from the airport by taxi and right by a train station.
I think if was about $40 less a night it might be perfectly adequate, but at the higher price would say try to go elsewhere.

Room Tip: Book elsewhere, if you have to stay here request away from the road/office.

“Budget friendly for big families”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

We stayed here with our 3 children and it was a great budget friendly place. It may not be up to some people's standards, but if you're looking to save a buck plus have enough room for the family to move around, then you should stay here. I had extreme trouble finding a hotel that would accomodate all 5 of us in one room and the Best Western Hacienda was within our price range and would let us all be in the same room - big incentives for us to stay here.

The room we were in was on the bottom floor (thank goodness with all of our luggage and kids) and the receptionist even helped us take our stuff to the room. We had a little trouble with the phone dialing out and with the internet, but the staff did try as best as they could to fix the issue before we just decided not to worry about it. My only issue with the internet was that they recommended we leave our door open or go to the pool area to get a better connection on the wifi as I sat at 1-3 bars when trying to use it after paying for it. I don't know if it's the thickness of the walls or the distance from the modem, but it's probably something they might want to change in the future so that those that need to connect to the internet can do so without waiting 15 min for a page to load.

Our room had 2 single beds and 1 queen bed, plenty of room for us and the bathroom was neat and clean. Had a little trouble with closing the bathroom door, but nothing that a little arm muscle couldn't fix. The pool was very pretty, although I didn't get a chance to try it out. The beds were comfortable and we all slept decently for that night with the air going - it wasn't too loud and cooled off decently. We didn't get to try the restaurant as it was closed, instead opting for Pizza Capers instead. We would probably stay here again if we were staying in Brisbane overnight as it's budget friendly and has rooms suitable to large families.

“Not sure why all the negative comments”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

We found ourselves on our own in Brisbane for a week after our host died suddenly. We booked a room at the Airport Inn Brisbane and just couldn't stay there --- that's another review. But next door is the BW Airport Hacienda. We went there and they took us in for the week. The room is neat, clean & comfortable. The staff is wonderful!

Yes, there is no elevator, and my 69-year-old husband huffed & puffed as we carried our luggage to the 2nd floor, but that is the only drawback I've found. We're finding nice little bistros & eateries within walking distance. The location is close to the river. We're happy with the Hacienda!

“Absolutely the worst hotel I have ever stayed in!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

As new emigrants from the UK to Australia and our first trip to Brisbane we decided on this hotel as it was close to the airport which was handy after such a long flight and arriving in a new city for the first time. We also saw the name, Best Western, a name WE THOUGHT was synonymous with quality accommodation at reasonable prices.
We were in for a very shocking welcome to Australia. Immediately walking into the hotel we knew we'd made a mistake but hoped for the best. Upon arriving at our room on the second floor it was for certain. In any other circumstances we would have left immediately but after just having completed a continuous 23 hours of flying, just wanted to get some sleep.
Amazingly despite the beautiful sunny weather outside the room was incredibly dark and dingy. It smelled of grease, paint and just dirt in general. The air-conditioner sounded like a tractor and the bedding had the horrible feeling that they hadn't seen the wash in a while.
All of this didn't really matter and we just collapsed on top of the covers and slept for a good 4 hours. Once we were a bit more awake, we were in for the shock of our lives when I went to take a shower. There was EXCREMENT on the floor! How does this happen???? Not even near the toilet. At this point, the roaches in the room and in the bathroom were not at all a surprise.
The claim that this is the standard for a 3-star hotel is absolutely ridiculous, unless stars really mean nothing in Australia. We have stayed in many (much cheaper) 3-star hotels in the UK and in general with nothing fancy you can rely on being in a clean environment.
Needless to say this one stay ruined what should have been a happy time starting our new lives down under. The next day, having absolutely no desire to even see the pool (if that much care is taken cleaning the rooms, I dread to think what goes on with the pool) we got out as soon as we could despite having booked for 3 days and ended up staying in a guest house.
If you value your health do not stay here.

Room Tip: There aren't any other than find another hotel.

Booked a room for one night as we had a very early morning flight and wished to be close to the airport. Had read lots of the Tripadvisor reviews but figured that Hacienda had become a sort of batting target and couldn't possibly be as bad as all that, particularly given what it charges... It also seemed as if management was taking all the negative comments seriously and making changes as required.
What a joke!
At least we didn't have to walk up stairs carrying heavy suitcases as we had been assigned a ground floor room. This turned out to be a room without, really, any source of natural light whatsoever. The room smelt of old cigarette smoke, sweat and exhaust fumes. The shower was really bad. The television could not get any free to air channels at all, just Foxsports and Sky. The receptionist came along and twiddled with it a bit, then said she thought there was a loose connection (!!). There was no offer to move us to another room. She did offer us a free breakfast BUT we had already paid for a room and breakfast package and had discovered that the restaurant did not start serving breakfast until 6.45 which was too late for us. So, in a sense we missed out on three breakfasts.
We ate dinner in the restaurant. The food was fairly horrible - my 'roast pork' tasted like reconstituted inner soles. The long suffering waiter was actually very pleasant to us, although seemed a bit short with some other diners. We are sure they deserved it. In the end we checked out at about 5.30 and went to the airport to vent our spleen on Virgin staff after being informed that our flight was cancelled (volcanic ash). Returned to the comfort of South Bank hotel - bliss.

Room Tip: Not sure that there are any...

Hello and thank you for choosing to stay with us recently. We are sorry our ground floor unit was not suitable for you. They are heavily requested by many regular guests preferring ground floor access. These 6 rooms have windows only where the first and second floor units all have balconies. Our ground floor units are also designed for wheelchair access in the bathroom as well. We offer assistance with luggage as we do not have a lift to the first and second level as we understand it is tiresome with heavy luggage. If you are ever in the area again, please drop in and we would be happy to show you other rooms that you might be more suitable for you. Thank you again for letting us know you comments.
