“Great hotel and great service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

We stayed 2 nights in Brisbane at this hotel and found it a lovely change from the run of the mill hotels we usually stay in.
As soon as you enter the door, it had a nice feel to it , though there was work going on at the time and it was in plain sight of all the guests coming through into the lobby. It would have been better to put some kind of curtain up so we couldn't see all the paint tins and debris left on the floor over the weekend.
The lift going up to the room was like stepping back in time and was a real pleasure to see and ride in one of the old elevators instead of the classic mirrored and enclosed ones.
We were upgraded to a lovely 2 bed suite and it was lovely.
It had a kitchenette and coffee and tea with biscuits.

The breakfasts provided were continental . This was in with the price of the room and were served in the restaurant which was light and airy .the buffet had everything you could wish for and coming from England , I must say , we were amazed at how big the slices of bread were. We would call them door stops.
All in all our stay was wonderful. The ease of getting there from the station was great, and with two big suitcases with us, it needed to be.
The only problem for us was , my husband and I couldn't sleep together as the bed was too small (he is 1.94meters tall) . Still I had the best nights sleep ever in my own bed and bedroom.

Thank you for making our stay in Brisbane so special and we would definitely stay here again if we come back to brisbane.

Thank you so much for the review. It was our pleasure to have you here - so lovely to get to know you.
Don't think I've ever had the problem of the tall husband mentioned before! though I'm sure it's not the first time it's been a problem for you in terms of bed size. Though all our beds are queen size, I completely recognise how challenging it would be for someone nearly 2m tall to lie comfortably. Least one of you had a decent night's sleep or two or three!!
Take your point about the renovations. Thankfully they are nearly complete. We did have a screen up at one point and then everyone wanted to look at what we were doing so we didn't continue with it. One guy actually caused it to topple over whilst trying to peek over it!!
I am so glad you left our Hotel and our lovely city of Brisbane with, on the whole, such favourable memories. It is such a long trip to Australia and I am pleased we contributed to it being worth your while.
We do hope we might see you again - you never know!!
Kindest regards and happy travels.
Liz

“Lovely, lovely hotel.”

Warm and cosy and the staff were amazing. We were treated more like old friends rather than guests. The room was spacious and the location is brilliant! close to everything and yet when you are inside the hotel it seems like everyone and everything else is a million miles away.

thanks Liz for taking such wonderful care of us. XX

“Friendly service, somewhere a bit different”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

My daughter and I recently had a two night stay at the Inchcolm. We booked a two bedroom family package which included Continental breakfast, lake check out and free parking. On arrival we were upgraded to the three bedroom Penthouse which was lovely. I did see the other two bedroom units and whilst much smaller they were very well appointed. The hotel was undergoing some major renovations in the dining/reception area. This did not disturb us at all in our room and the staff were trying very hard to make sure we were ok with all the chaos in and around the hotel. Breakfast was very well done and the service was excellent.
The pool was a good size but the general area around it needed a clean up and there was a stray mens sock in the pool for the two days we were there.

There is something about this hotel that will draw us back, it's not a 'big chain', the service was excellent and I am looking forward to the changes including a bistro coffee shop when fully operational.

Hi Beth - thank you for the review and for being so understanding about our renovations.
Happy our attempts at minimising disruption to all our lovely guests has been working!!
And thank you for letting us know about the sock - duly fished out and thrown out.
Check out our renovation progress on Facebook. I think you said your son has a FB profile. Like us at The Inchcolm Hotel. Recent shot of me on there "helping" said renovations in heels. Quite funny - wasn't doing anything too serious at the time so got away with heels on job site.
We hope to see you again in the not too distant future.
Best wishes,
Liz and The Inchcolm Crew

“21st Century with Character”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

I arrived late at night to find that the Choice website had stuffed up my payment and the front desk didn't have a recording of it. HOWEVER, they apologies for the system and asked that I see reception the next day. They checked me in on just the standard credit card imprint, trusting that I had paid as I said I had. The night receptionist had fantastic customer service.

Then the next night I had what is probably the best room service meal I've had in over 2 years. I would go back (and have gone back) to this hotel just for the restaurant. It is quality food.

The rooms are pretty standard with the character of the building retained (specific in the elevators). With this in mind, this is not an appropriate hotel for someone in a wheelchair as you need to use a bit of muscle to keep the lift doors open long enough to get you and your luggage in.

Parking is a bit of a problem - they only have room for 10 cars, but there is a garage about 50m where you can park for about $15 overnight.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on the 3rd of 4th floor - much better view and less street noise.

Dear Anasatasia,
Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us.
Just a little note re the parking.....You are right, we don't have much given we used not to have any at all until the Hotel was renovated in 1999.
The parking nearby is $15 per night but only on weekends.
Rates vary across the week depending on the entry and exit time of those "pay to use" facilities.
The metered parking around the Hotel is free to use from 7pm until 7am daily and sometimes that works quite well for our guests. It is also completely free every weekend from 7pm Friday until 7am Monday.
The best idea is to make parking arrangements with us when reservations are made and then generally we are able to provide parking within the Hotel's car park.
It is actually possible to keep the doors of our dear old heritage listed lift pinned open to make getting into and out of it relatively easy. I do agree though, that with a wheelchair it is a bit more awkward. We are always happy though to provide assistance though to guests who may need it.
Again, thank you so much for taking the time to write your review. We value your feedback.
Kindest regards,
Liz Martin

“Great place to stay”

I would echo other reviewers' takes on The Inchcolm... the rooms are excellent, the staff is friendly, and the general hotel atmosphere is comfortable. The rooms come with a kitchenette and plenty of space, and the bathroom in my particular room (forget the exact name - starts with a 'G' I think) was very clean, well-furnished, and comfortable for a tall person.

Access to the train and bus system is easy and nearby - and there is a bike share stand right outside the hotel! I would definitely recommend the hotel, the only drawback is the immediate area surrounding the hotel is dedicated to several roadways and entry-exit ramps... making crossings somewhat more difficult with luggage.

Dear Nick,
Thank for your feedback. We appreciate it and that you stayed with us.
There are a couple of "sneaky" ways to get to the Hotel from Central train station that minimise the luggage hauling drama!!
The best one is to exit the concourse of the station and come up via escalators through the foyer of the Sofitel and straight across the road to us.
I do this when I use the Airtrain and it's relatively easy. I've just been to Europe and hauled a suitcase all round there so know what you mean re the challenges of that process!!
We hope you might get back to stay with us again some time and if you need clarification of how to get here a little more easily with your luggage, give us a call and we can send you an email with explanation of same.
Kindest regards,
Liz Martin
